Decor for outdoor ceremony....(Tree decorations)

Melissa, on October 9, 2010 at 6:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

The area we are using for the has many trees surrounding the area. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what to use for the decor? I would love to have something nice I could hang from the trees, but have no idea what. I have looked at the sample pictures, but have not found anything.

I'm having an outdoor wedding also and my venue has lights stringing from every tree in the area. You can hang lanterns from the trees and those come in different colors.

I've seen people hang Chinese paper lanterns from tree limbs (because you can get them in relatively big sizes you don't need a ton of them) I've seen them with lights for outdoor receptions, and without for daytime ceremonies.

Here are a few ideas for you. Any of these can be customized for your specific wedding style. Email me if you are interested in more ideas.

Before investing any money in outdoor decor talk w/ your venue. String lights will need electrical and possibly extension cords, you'll want to know they can provide an electrical source (they may not have enough amps or no plug-ins close by). For paper lantern LED light packs to use w/ paper lanterns check out culturalintrigue.com - this is their wholesale online site but they do sell to the public online, just can't remember the alternate name. You might also want to consider hanging mason jars from branches, I'd recommend that you add a small amount of sand to the bottom of the jar to stablilize the light source & use LED tealights to insure no blow-out. IKEA sells small lanterns for $5/ea that look cute hung in clusters from branches.

Since we're an outdoor venue we do or have decorated w/ many approaches. For the right wedding/reception quilts on a clothesline can add whimsy and color. We often will hang college flags. Topiary balls hung w/ ribbon can look nice too.

I had a bride hang crystals in the trees - it was inexpensive and did not have to worry about electric outlets. Hanging mason jars with candles in them would be beautiful as well.

One of my brides hung flower pomanders from the trees at her outdoor ceremony.
