December wedding vs July

Traci, on August 28, 2016 at 11:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm having a hard time deciding on a December wedding in Cleveland or a July wedding in Cleveland, OH. Any thoughts?

December may be tough- between weather and holidays, people may not come if they have to travel. July would be better weather and get together wise but would probably be more expensive since it's considered peak season. I guess it depends on the look and feel you want and how many people would have to travel.

When in December? If you want outside definitely July. But July could be very hot in Cleveland then. Also December gets hard with people's PTO and travel schedule

I would avoid December, since you're going to run into weather problems for many of your guests, and it's stupid expensive to travel around Christmas.

What are your pros and cons for each? December will likely be cheaper, but as @SchooleyWeds said, holidays and travel may interfere. We went with December because we wanted a winter wedding feel and I'm glad we did.

December might be cheaper because it's off peak but it's also so close to the holidays. Guests might have a hard time traveling there because they're saving their days off for their holiday vacation. They also might be saving for Christmas gifts as well, so money is usually tight for people around this time. It might also snow, delaying flights, and making it harder to travel.

A July wedding will be more expensive but it's more likely that the weather would be nice.

My parents live near canton and it seems like every time I fly home in December I run into travel delays. It's also more expensive to travel because of the holidays. It also depends on your venue.

It depends on what kind of wedding you want. I feel like you can have snow mess up travel in the winter just as much as you can have thunderstorms mess up travel in the summer. The timing is never going to be perfect for everyone, so choose the date you and your fiancé want the most.

I hate the winter, so I would never want to get married then! I wanted to have an outdoor ceremony and also outdoor pictures. December is also extremely busy for people AND expensive for people, so some people may not be able to attend your wedding. The weather could also cause travel delays and other issues.

December gives you the benefit of cheaper, off-season pricing, but you'd have to be sure not to book it so close to the December holidays; end of November to the first few days of December.

July is summertime, which works best for everyone post-4th of July, but it'll be peak season pricing.

It definitely depends on what kind of wedding you want. Ive always wanted a Christmas Themed wedding but didn't want to deal with weather crappyness so I went with Dec 3rd. I wouldn't have it in july in my personal opinion not because it's more expensive but bc its so hot!! I don't want to be so hot and uncomfortable on my wedding. I also don't want my guest to be unconfortable bc the weather. But that's just me I hate summer I'm more a winter person.

What kind of feel do you guys want? We can't decide that for you. Do you want a winter feel/theme or warm and summery? I personally wouldn't want the cold but yes July will be more expensive. And it's tough on people to attend/be in weddings around the holidays. I do think snowy wedding pictures are gorgeous though! That'd be the only perk for me!

Wow, mines is 7/7/19. Congrats!! I personally; prefer the warm weather. Winter (if ur lookin 2 do indoors) weather is great, but with holidays jus around it gets tricky. It all comes down 2 knowin ur guest. Best of Luck & Congrats.

@Casie I feel exactly the same and am also having a Christmas wedding. For me, it was a no-brainer since I hate summer and would never consider an outdoor wedding in July (not that my December wedding will be outdoors, but our first look will be).
