DC venue with a $10,000 budget, any ideas?

DC, on January 7, 2009 at 9:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

We live in the DC area and need ideas for a reception site (we moved here for my fiance's job and I am very unfamiliar with the area). We are working with a $10,000 budget, will invite approx. 100 people and would like a fall wedding. We are open to areas in DC/Northern Virginia/Maryland.

I can't think of a specific venue within that budget, but I do know that you will have the most luck looking in Maryland. Northern VA and DC are just ridiculously expensive in all ways. So Focus your search in MD if you can, there are some amazing places on the chesapeake bay.

It will be near impossible to do a wedding for $10,000 in the DC/Nova area with 100 people, unless you cut your guest list or go a little further out of the way. If you look in places such as more south (Leeseburg, Warrenton, etc. these are in VA) you will have better luck finding cheaper prices. For my dad's second marriage, they got married at a winery in Leesburg, it may have been called Hidden Brook Winery, but I'm not sure. They spent about $10,000, maybe a little less. However it was a smaller wedding, maybe 50-70 people, and they just had a bbq style dinner. Pretty informal, but the location was very pretty and the wedding was nice. The average cost of a wedding in the Nova/DC area is $38,000... so good luck! I'm sure it will be nice whatever you decide to do! Smiley smile

I highly recommend getting a hold of Krystal Kiff at Pintail Yachts- my husband and I just shot a wedding she coordinated aboard the Lady Pintail in Annapolis in November and everything was great. The bride had amazing reviews, it was a great location for pictures and the crew made everyone extremely comfortable and were very ! You can check them out at https://www.weddingwire.com/biz/pintail-yachts-annapolis-baltimore/e11fb95c4078846e.html and visit the photo gallery at http://pictage.com/493280

I live in Sterling, VA. How close do you live to Sterling? There is a Park, Algonkian Regional Park right off of the Algonkian Parkway which will rent out their location inexpensively. If you are a resident of Sterling the cost is a lot less expensive. Let me get their link and I'll make another post with it.

Here's the link for Algonkian Regional Park: http://www.nvrpa.org/parks/algonkian/?pg=conference.html

If you need any other help in the Northern Virginia area, please send me a message. I'd be more than happy to help you figure out how to throw together a Wedding on your budget. Best of luck planning.

If you want something in Maryland and don't mind driving to Aberdeen, Cal Ripken Junior's Ball Park, I think it's called Ripken Stadium, is another option too. They'll work with any budget and can hold a lot of guests too. They don't list their pricing, you have to call them, but they might be able to work with your budget too.

I'm sorry if this is something you may not want to hear, but not to discourage you but as I see you have a 4th of July Wedding (my sister's was over 4th of July Weekend too), most places charge you a lot more for holiday dates. They can even can even be twice or three times more expensive than non-holiday dates. Trying to keep your budget in mind, a park or beach wedding (you can see if places near Ocean City, MD may do something or have your wedding on the beach usually no charge to have it on the beach) and have your reception at a restaurant or do a picnic or BBQ. This area is the 2nd most expensive area to have Weddings (besides California) and a lot of places around here are really expensive. I don't know how elaborate you want your wedding, but with the budget you have and this area, you might go over $10,000 for a wedding. I'll see what kind of things I can brainstorm for you.

Something if you want a nice reception is Al Copeland's in Annapolis, MD. (since someone else mentioned Annapolis). If there is a park near there, have your ceremony there, and Al Copeland's has a relatively inexpensive Reception/Private Party Menu. A perk to that though is right across the street there a number of hotels which will provide free transportation for you guests to the Mall (which is where the restaurant is located) which will save you money from having to transport your guests to your reception site. There are also other Restaurants within walking distance to from there. My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton over there for our 1 year Anniversary just for a night and it's in a great area. I tried to talk my hubby into us having our Vow Renewal there. It's an extremely easy ride off of the Beltway.

Here's a link for another Vineyard in Maryland where my in-laws went to a friend's 2nd Wedding and they said it was gorgeous and their wine is amazing there. They maybe may only make you pay for a couple cases of wine. http://berrywine.net/index.html

Thank you for everyone's suggestions. We are changing to a Fall 2009 wedding and I am having to reconsider the budget. Any ideas for places around Old Town Alexandria?

Alexandria is really expensive. An idea if you have something simple and do an after party in Alexandria is go to the Rock It Grill on King Street. Their entertainment is excellent and their food and beverages are all very reasonably priced. Their bartenders make the best drinks too. I've gone there with friends and had my hubby and I kept our Vow Renewal out here we would have hired their bartender who makes the best drinks. See if maybe they'll rent you out the place for a private function in your budget. There is also a Bertuccis on King Street (it's small, but you can see if they might be able to accomodate an affordable reception for you).

If you do something in Old Town Alexandria keep in mind there isn't much in the way of Parking. There is a Joe Theisman's Restaurant there too and they have a Private Function room for Receptions that could possibly fit into your budget.

StrongHeart95, I live in Sterling too! Small world! Where are you doing your vow renewal? We are most likely either having our wedding at Belmont Country Club in Ashburn (fiance's parents are members, so we would get a discount. score!) or Whitehall Manor in Bluemont.

I was at a wedding for a friend in a very similar situation to yours (just moved there at the time, working on a $5000 budget, actually), and she had hers at Rockwood Manor in Potomac, MD (http://www.mc-mncppc.org/parks/wehavethewhere/rockwood/index.shtm) It's an old mansion / estates with an outdoor gazebo area (where I think most weddings are held) and plenty of space / rooms inside for reception, etc. Good luck!

Not sure if your wedding date is flexible, by my FI and I have changed our venue and are "selling" our venue reservation for May 9, 2009 in Annapolis, MD if you're interested. We are trying to recoup some of our deposit, and would give the venue to you at a discount. If you're interested, please contact me at *******@*******.***.
