Day of Coordination

Cassie, on September 13, 2019 at 8:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 3
I am meeting with a DOC this weekend and was wondering what questions I should ask them? My venue doesn’t provide one and FH said he’d feel a lot better if someone was there. I know they said they would set up our decor but I feel like I’ll end up doing that anyways because I want it to be ready for the florists. I’m just not sure of what questions I should ask.

When I had my discussion with my DOC, she mostly took the lead of the conversation. She asked what all needed to be done before, during and after the wedding.

I made a list of all I could think of, then gave it to her. DOCs are mostly supposed to figure all of the logistics out, you just tell them what needs to get done.

    For example, I told mine

I needed some decor to go out.

I needed help with the timing of the walk down the aisle.

They did announcements at the reception.

Made sure all the vendors were there on time, and coordinated where the cake and catering were supposed to go.

They really did save me from so much hassle, and I'm so glad I hired them.

We also didn't ask a ton of questions when we first met our coordinator - she had a list of things she generally did, and we asked specific to us questions as needed - things like whether she had worked with our vendors before.

I'm with your FH - I think a DOC is pretty key. We got ours for month of coordination, so she's kind of in charge of everything at this point (or at least as much as we want her to be). The day of, she and/or her assistant will be at the venue when vendors arrive to coordinate all the setup, she'll handle all the décor we're providing, will be with us during the photographs to call out family members to make sure we get the right shots, keep a general eye on the schedule throughout the night, and take care of teardown and clean up after the wedding. She's going to be invaluable.
