David's ruined my dress: UPDATE in comments

Meagen, on October 4, 2017 at 9:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 77

I went to pick up my dress today at David's Bridal. They absolutely mangled it. I'm losing my mind over it.

I lost about 30 lbs since buying it, and paid almost $1k total JUST for alterations. I had it hemmed first, then bustled, and each appointment just got more and more expensive. I regret it so much.

But for that price, you'd think it'd be perfect, though. The waist needs taken in, the arms are so tight I can't lift my arms, there's a whole in a sleeve, one of the breast cups is flat and the other is normal (the seamstress actually said to me, "maybe you lost weight in one of your breasts").

It's just a disaster. I've already called corporate and I'm going back tomorrow for a meeting with the store manager. I told her I just want a replacement dress and I'll take it somewhere else for alterations. She insisted on having her team try and fix the dress by tomorrow, so we'll see -- especially since they didn't pin it or take any new measurements.

Freaking out.

Forgot to add: they completely changed the neckline because the sleeves wouldn't stay up. So now I don't have the neckline I wanted, and guess what: the sleeves still fall right off.

Oh wow, that is terrible. At least you used their alterations team so they're liable for it. That's why I also used David's for alterations instead of a local seamstress.

I hope they can figure something out for you fast!

@LillyBean, that's the only reason I used them, but the seamstress today straight up told me she didn't know how to fix the sleeves because they cut too much and she said they don't have matching material -- they'd have to lengthen the sleeves a bit, and when they shortened them, they apparently didn't keep anything.

@Christina, it's in York, PA. Several seamstresses worked on it. At my last fitting, they were having a lot of trouble figuring it out. Obviously they couldn't make it work.

Girl go pitch a FIT. This sucks so bad, I empathize. But time to go in problem-solving mode. Is there a comparable dress that won't need excessive alterations they can get done in two weeks? Call every single one of your friends and get recommendations for their seamstresses. Can you get rid of the sleeves altogether and just fix the bra part? You've got options. Yes, it's unfair and screw them, but no time to waste!

@Sarah, I absolutely failed at pitching a fit. I just silently sobbed in the middle of the store while FSIL tried to give them ideas on ways to fix it (they shot them all down). You'd also think they wouldn't want someone crying in the middle of the store, but the also never offered me a private room so ...

Stand up for yourself with the manager! They owe you a replacement dress ASAP. I also experienced nightmare alterations and my dress is currently with a competent seamstress and should be done in 3 days.

Remain calm, don't raise your voice, and look that manager in the eye and DEMAND this situation be fixed, you can do it! Please post an update when you know more.
