David's Bridal Rant

Super agitated with our local David's Bridal. I went in January to get an idea of BM dresses and tried on 2 wedding dresses that I ended up hating. Super agitated with our local David's Bridal. I went in January to get an idea of BM dresses and tried on 2 wedding dresses that I ended up hating. I left with a sour taste in my mouth when the consultant kept pressuring me to order my dress and BM dresses that day for my October 2018 wedding. Now I know that bridal gowns run small, but it was ridiculous that I am a 2/4 street size and she kept saying well you're a 16/18 here. I left feeling like a blimp when nothing fit and she didn't even put effort into pulling anything...or we just don't carry a sample that will fit you. I had 0 intentions of going back for my gown. Today I got a phone call to confirm a bridal appointment I didn't make. I was at work so I didn't answer or have time to return their call. Has anyone else run into a rogue consultant from DB making appointments without asking? Am I just crazy for being irritated by this? I feel like it's such a crap business move.

In my experience it depends on the location of the DB. I'm in the midwest and the one I went to was clean, wonderful customer service, helpful, etc. I visited my sister in Louisiana and we went to look for BM dresses.......that location was terrible. It was dirty, they were not helpful, despite having an appointment it seemed the consultant could not be bothered.

That's crazy that the dress would be like that! I wear a 2/4 pants and a 0 dress and my wedding dress is a 2 and it's too big for me.

My street size is about 10/12 and my dress size is 14...? What she said makes absolutely no sense. That consultant obviously isn't good at what she does and is off her rocker. I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. DB is hit and miss. My experience was wonderful, but I've heard a fair amount of complaints.

I hate to say this, but I think some stores upsize you even more than the regular "wedding dresses run smaller" sizing because you then have to spend more in alterations.

I had tried on several wedding dresses by one designer at various stores, and the consultants all told me I was a 4-6, depending on if the back was a corset due to my chest measurement.

Then, I was seriously debating a dress by the same designer at a different store. They told me I was a 10. Absolutely a 10. I questioned it, but I didn't end up ordering from that store so I blew it off.

I went to a final boutique where I ended up trying on the dress the other store told me I'd be a 10 in...in a 10...and the thing fell straight down to the ground. The store I ordered from ordered a 6 (which will still need taken in.)

I've heard of this happening to other brides too, so I started to think it has to do with knowing you'll pay higher seamstress fees...although, everyone tells you here to price private seamstresses. Not everyone is a WW member to know that, though.

You must have gotten a bad one because the David's Bridal I went to, where I did end up ordering my dress from, was amazing! The consultant was extremely helpful and kind and I found my dream dress. She also much not know what she was doing or something because my dress was like 2 sizes bigger than I usually wear and that's it. Not all are like that

You really cannot get hung up on the size of a dress.. it is just a number. I am a street size 8/10 depending. and my dress was ordered in a size 20.

Also I think a big source of disappointment or frustration from DB shoppers is that they expect this wonderful experience, with a quiet and attentive bridal attendant, a relaxing and fun environment, etc. And that just isn't the DB way. If you want that sort of bridal experience you need to hit up the boutique shops.

My David’s bridal was fine so I guess it depends on the consultant and location? I'm over in Southern California. My size wasn't actually far off either but that could be because I'm plus size. I wear a 22 size pant and my dress was a 22/24

Seems like it definitely depends on the consultant, and perhaps the location as well. I didn't mind my consultant, I actually had a harder time with the manager. I knew the style I wanted going in, and they just didn't have anything that I liked. I felt like the consultant listened, but the manager was really upset that I didn't like any of the dresses - actually, the same thing happened at Alfred Angelo as well.

DB definitely sized me up higher than other stores as well. I'm a 2/4 and they told me I might need a 12, but everywhere else I went it was a 6.

I have my first appointment with David's Bridal this Friday, so we'll see how that goes. I don't plan to buy a dress that day, so if I get attitude from them about it I will just buy online once I get sized. I was in a wedding last September as the MOH and we shopped for our dresses at DB and had a pretty good experience. Our consultant was awkward but not rude at all. Oddly, I was sized for my BM dress at exactly what I typically wear, but I'm sure bridal will b different.

I'm not getting anything from David's bridal. I did with my first wedding and it was great, but they just don't have what I'm looking for this time

The DB I'm buying from is great. Yep sizes are wonky, but the sales rep never steered me wrong. Also their alterations dept is great.

I have heard the horror stories, thank God I haven't had a taste of it.

I had a terrible experience at DB as a bridesmaid last winter. The consultant was EXTREMELY pushy and rude and even though we had an appointment made weeks ahead of time for a party of 10 girls, we had 1 teeny tiny dressing room to share. One of the girls was newly pregnant and uncomfortable committing to a dress then knowing by the wedding she would be 7 months pregnant and wanted to wait a little bit longer to order for a more accurate size, and the consultant was so rude and "couldn't guarantee" the generic dress she chose would be available in a few weeks. It was just completely ridiculous

ETA: we were all so irritated with the consultant we went home and ordered dresses online rather than risking her getting the commission for the sales

Everyone I have talked to says don't go to DB. Most make you feel like an idiot and make you feel awkward and also don't pull dresses that you want to see, moreso the ones they think you want to see because they are more expensive. Go to a smaller place, they will give you the feeling your looking for.

I went there for my first time to try on dresses. (I didn't get my gown from there ) however I told the girl look I'm just here to get a feel for what I like. She was super cool. Super down to earth we had fun. She knew I wasn't going to buy anything right then in there but she did go above and beyond. I had a good experience

Unfortunately this location is the only one immediately near.

It's unfortunate that's how they conduct their business.

MrsV I ran into the same issue buying a BM dress. I ordered my street size because it wasn't a fitted dress. It didn't fit in the bust. So I went up to a 10...they ordered a 12 and I ended up having to pay for alterations.

Was just at DB today for my MOH and Mother of the Bride dresses. Had an awesome experience, was a bit worried because the yelp reviews for the last month were 2 stars at best.
