David's Bridal Rant

Super agitated with our local David's Bridal. I went in January to get an idea of BM dresses and tried on 2 wedding dresses that I ended up hating. Super agitated with our local David's Bridal. I went in January to get an idea of BM dresses and tried on 2 wedding dresses that I ended up hating. I left with a sour taste in my mouth when the consultant kept pressuring me to order my dress and BM dresses that day for my October 2018 wedding. Now I know that bridal gowns run small, but it was ridiculous that I am a 2/4 street size and she kept saying well you're a 16/18 here. I left feeling like a blimp when nothing fit and she didn't even put effort into pulling anything...or we just don't carry a sample that will fit you. I had 0 intentions of going back for my gown. Today I got a phone call to confirm a bridal appointment I didn't make. I was at work so I didn't answer or have time to return their call. Has anyone else run into a rogue consultant from DB making appointments without asking? Am I just crazy for being irritated by this? I feel like it's such a crap business move.

I had a terrible experience there too. My consultant was awful and everyone was super rude, but that is retail in a nutshell: hit or miss. I requested I step into dresses due to my ta-tas being large, she insisted on me putting them over my head. I got stuck, I got hot, I got pissed. Is it annoying Absolutely. Just use finder tools on WW, the Knot or yelp to read reviews and find a great place in your area!

I went to 3 different DB stores and had 3 totally different experiences. It just depends on the store. Can you try another store?

I had a bad experience with my BMs too! I find that small bridal boutiques are the best, they are usually one on one with the consultant Smiley smile

I worked at DB for a few months. I had no issues about getting a dress to fit any size with what was in stock for samples. They have every size in every designer, not always all sizes in a specific dress, but enough that you can get in to a similar dress to check size if they don't carry it in a sample. This consultant had no idea what they were doing. Which is poor training by their management.

I do know they are paid on commissions. That being said, if they spend hours with you helping you pick a dress and you order it from another store or online, or even come back later, another person is making the commission from they're hours of work. I ran in to this a few times and it can be a little frustrating as your pay goes up when you hit your quotas.

The appointments are the same, everything goes in to a computer and they're tracked on how many follow up appointments they make.

This consultant seems they are more worried about their own bottom line than anything, but don't let the one bad apple ruin it. I've met people in that industry that have put in decades and are very, very knowledgeable, and can be the most helpful people you'll ever meet.

Find another store. I like to support local businesses over big chains anyway. Have you considered having your gown made?

I went to davids as a BM in another wedding. Our consultant was so rude and annoyed that the bride had already bought her dress in another shop. We got completely ignored for brides that were not even working with her. I went as a bride with my mom to look, consultant again was completely rude and said since I was open to different styles and ideas bc I don't know what will look good on me, that she couldn't help me bc I didn't have a clear vision.

Shop I ended up going to I swear is the greatest consultant ever. She listened to ideas that i liked and gave suggestions. She also didn't let my insecurities bother me. I left feeling beautiful!

Is it possible your name is common that it got mixed up in the computer system? When I went in to DB, they typed my name wrong. The email address was right but the spelling of my name was wrong by 2 letters. Maybe someone with a similar name to you made an appointment and they accidentally called you?

That sizing is messed up. I agree with a pp, maybe she meant 6/8? I'm a street 6, and was between a bridal 8 and 10. One or two sizes up is normal, but that's insane.

Also for sizing, she probably had a slip of the tongue and meant 6-8. I had a BM dress from them and I got my street size. I was a size 6 at the time and the size 6 fit perfectly. So 2/4 could be sized up to 6/8 depending on the style, but you wouldn't need a 16/18.

Edit: sorry I misread the post. I thought you went to try BM dresses not wedding dresses.

I had issues being a bridesmaid at David;s bridal that is why I ended up at a small shop near my home and didn't spend that much more for my dress than I would have at David's. Plus David's isn't close to my home and when you are looking at time and gas it was worth it.

Wow that's a huge size difference.. they only went up one? size for me. But I really did hate their customer service. They r so rude. I told them my budget and they had me try on dresses and I even asked them again if the dress was in my budget and the lady said yes. So I fell in love with my dress but once I went to go pay, the dress ended up being around $450 over. I was so upset.

Okay guys. I'm up. Sorry CA time.

Hannah: I felt. Not thought. I've seen plenty of women look amazing in dress and curves in all the right places, but for me it was awful.

I ended up booking a different salon to continue my search. I have a seamstress here in town that I will be recommending they use that works magic.

Blows my mind how many people report issues with them and the behavior continues.

Tyjean: Girl I wish I did! I love a good manager that puts her foot down.

While I understand the (kind of) necessity for db, I basically hate them. It's been such an up and down relationship with them, and I've heard so many negative experiences, I'm glad my relationship with them is over.

Sorry you had this negative of a time. Find and support a local boutique. They aren't that much more expensive, and the experience is totally worth it.

BMG I found one near by my work that's independent. Looking forward to working with them. I visited a GF that worked at Nordstrom Bridal and she helped me decide on a fit. Found an Olia Gown that is definitely a contender and I may go back for.

We've had mixed experiences w/ our local DB. I'm ****% certain they gave me a dress 1 size bigger than what I needed so that I paid to get it altered there. The alterations were almost $500 by the time it was said and done and they definitely took enough out to be a full size. Also, I'm a size 2 and I purchased a size 4 fitted dress. Not sure why she was saying all that to you!!

My BM purchased a dress and it took 4 weeks to get in. The consultant was amazing though and the whole experience was great. She just went to get hers altered and found that it was defective and they're saying they'll have to REORDER it and it won't be in until 10 days before my wedding, and she'd still need alterations!! She's actually there now fighting with them trying to make them over night us a new dress. We'll see how that goes...

Coffee: I was new to their system. So there was no mix up.

She definitely had no idea what she was doing.

I've been having an extremely hard time with DB for the past month because I canceled my lay way deposit. I thought I loved that one but ended up choosing different one from a different store because DB doesn't carry stella york. So now I feel like they're punishing me by taking a month to get my deposit back as well as taking half of it for a "fee" I'm not every giving them any business again because of the way they've treated me. They're just money hungry and do not care.
