Davids Bridal, good place to go or bad?

Alexandria, on May 7, 2010 at 8:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 37

Hey I was planning on going to Davids Bridal tomorrow to start looking at dresses. I believe they are having sales on dresses. Are their alterations badly priced, I wanna try and keep a resonable price limit..

I really think it depends on the location. I've heard several people say they had a bad time there but I actually had a really good experience there. My consultant was really great!

It really depends on the David's that you go to. I have been to several David's and had positive experiences with all of them. Many of the other brides on this site have had really bad experiences. The good thing is that if you have a good experience you can leave and try a different Bridal Shop. Do you have an appointment? You really need one--and going on a Saturday will be nuts. I would highly recommend that you try to go on a week day. It will be a much more relaxing experience.

Oh... I totally agree with Gidge! I went on a weeknight so it wouldn't be crazy. And you definitely need an appointment!

Along with the other girls, it really does sound like a personal thing.

I went to the York, PA location and had a great experience. This was prob my 5th stop... I tried on 8-9 maybe 10 dresses... found 2 that I loved. Went to another place, went to lunch and I told my Mom that we had to go back that 1 of those dresses were mine. My consultant was GREAT... maybe a little to perky, but great. I tried on both dresses again and picked "the one" out. Ordered it in white, as they only had the ivory. Was told that it'd be 4 wks.... was called 4 days later that it was in. I LOVE MY DRESS!!!

Gidge - totally agree with making an appt if going on a weekend. You may be able to get by w/o one during the week.

I agree, it depends on the David's Bridal...the first one I went to was TERRIBLE. The woman brought me a bra multiple cup sizes too big and told me no dress would even look decent on me without boobs (I told her FH liked my boobs the size they were and would rather them be there than an extra pair of gym socks!)...she brought the wrong size dresses then blamed me for lying and telling her I wore a bigger size than I do, she put dresses I didn't like on my computer file and left off the ones I did like, put me on tons of mailing lists...it was terrible! I called her boss and complained!

The second (third, forth...I wanted to include many people) were all amazing! The sales people listened and found dresses that were more in line with what I was looking for...the one even told me to hold off buying my dress becuase a huge sale was comming and my dress would be at least $100 cheaper in a week (it was!)

I've heard alterations are expensive, but you can go elsewhere

I really dislike the DB here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/davids-bridal-madison-3#hrid:QeYVJR-GgP6Cr9p7AQhyuA

You might want to see if you know someone else who's been to the specific location you're considering, since they'll have a better idea about it.

The other posters are definitely right that you should avoid going on a Saturday, anyway.

Avoid Sundays too. Not sure if you are plus sized or not but my experience as a plus sized bride was horrible. Whatever you do don't do your alterations there they way overcharge on that. Weeknights were better. They do give your information to other people. I've been getting mail from venues in IN. I live in VA.

Also... did not really know this. I'm not huge, but def NOT small either. Other places, I was trying on 16-18's and they were all fitting pretty good. I told my consultant this and she pulled a 14womans and it fit SOOO good. The only alteration I needed was hem (I'm short) and the bustle.

I loved the way the dresses fit, but had mediocre experiences with customer service. You can't beat their prices for gowns, but you can definitely beat their prices for alterations. My dress came from there, and it is perfect, but I took it to a tailor for the bustle to save money.

We had a great experience at our DB. Consultant was attentive, not pushy, and worked really hard to find what we were looking for. Got phonecalls and emails promptly when it came in. Will get the alterations done somewhere else, though. From the things I've heard on WW, I'll find a local place!

Be prepared for an insane amount of emails. I didnt buy my dress from there, but I did get my veil and the dress my hostess will be wearing. OMG.. now I get an email from them every single day.

I dont like db here in ventura ca, i bought my dress there but they suck...dont do alterations there...they suck...if they have bad standards and procedures at a large amount of their stores they obviously dont care much to fix it or correct them...i think theres individuals that work at DB that actually care, but most people (i think) really just want comission....

I went to DB in Murrieta, CA and had a wonderful experience. I didn't do my alterations there though.

I bought my dress there and didn't have any problems. Even when I decided a different dress there was 'the one' they let me exchange it for my original one.

But I did have issues when it came to BM dresses and I went elsewhere. So it really just depends.

I'd definitely go ahead and make your appointment.

I did not have a very good experience with our Davids Bridal. They were very pushy on things I DID NOT LIKE! I told them I wanted color in my dress and they kept trying to get me to try on dresses that I couldnt get my color in. We left as soon as we could from there. But thats just my opinion of our Davids Bridal!

I had a good experience, but I have three pieces of advice. (1) Definitely make an appointment. (2) Whatever size they suggest, try at least 1 or 2 sizes smaller. They will try to get you to buy a dress that is too big so that you will have to have it altered. (3) Don't give them your email address. Not only will they email you like crazy, but they will share your email with their "partners."

Like the others said depend on your location, I have been to the DB here with several of my friends and never had a bad exsperince Im going there at the end of the month for myself. I wouldnt reccomend going to any bridal shop in the middle of wedding season without an appointment. I think its a set up for bad service

I think that DB is part of the dress trying on experience but I would say don't buy anything on the spot and check out other places. I ended up being much happier at a non-chain store and you can still get good prices.

It definitely depends on the location AND the sales person. When I went, my sale lady was really nice. She asked me up front what my budget was and what styles I wanted to look at. She is actually the one who brought me my "IT" dress. I hadn't picked it out to try on, but based on my comments of other dresses I tried on, we gave it a try, and I fell in love with it. After that, I wanted my sister to try on bridesmaid dresses, but my consultant was not helpful with that at all. We had to get the dresses ourselves, etc.

When we went a different time for me to try on dresses for my sister's wedding, we were at the same shop but had a different consultant. My sister made an appointment specifically for me to try on dresses and our consultant would not help us at all. We finally had to get the manager and the manager sent someone else over to us.

When I went for MY dress, the alteration lady was really nice. When we told her I was losing weight, she actually told me not to lose too
