David's Bridal Alterations - T9612 Dress

SoontobeJB, on July 29, 2015 at 11:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

I'm thinking of adding cups to my dress and possibly a bustle.

I know a few of you have the same dress as me: DB T9612

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_all-over-beaded-lace-trumpet-gown-t9612

For those of you that have the dress are you getting a bustle?

Also does anyone know DB's pricing? I searched online but can't find anything.

I tried this dress on & loved it. I haven't picked a dress yet, but I might be going back to this one.

If you go to DB, they will give you a starting price list.

That's my dress too and I love it (mine's in champagne). I didn't go the David's Bridal alterations route though because I'd heard horror stories and that they're overpriced. I'm getting mine done by a local woman who does alterations for a boutique, but also does them out of her home on the side. I'm getting a bustle and she said it will be only slightly tricky since there is like 3 layers to the dress. Also getting it hemmed, the straps taken in, and the back taken in a little. She's sewing in cups (no bra for me wooooo!) and also going to get rid of the white spaghetti strap under the lace and round off the tops of the bust area. Cost is $225. Also we're almost date twins!

@kmess hmmm I'm gonna see what their pricing is, I've had two dresses altered there both taken in from the bust and hemmed, the second time I think they went too tight on the bust but that's the only problem I had. I didn't think I would need a bustle until I started look at pictures of other women wearing the dress

That's so pretty! For the bustle- YES, or at least a simple button-hook to pull it up in the back. My friend had a dress with a sweep train and even in the store, people were stepping all over it Smiley sad

For alterations, ask David's seamstress to give you a quote - but do NOT authorize the work. Take photos of the dress front and back, as well as up-close at the bust and back and hem so you can see the beading and the seams, and then contact 2 other non-David's bridal seamstresses, send them the pics, and ask them to quote you for the same work.

All seamstresses have ballpark figures for 'take in bust', 'bustle sweep train', etc.,so you can get apples-to-apples comparisons. Yelp is very helpful to find seamstresses who specialize in bridal. Then you'll have 3 quotes, and you can figure out what makes sense for you.

If you work with an outside seamstress, you still need to get a quote in writing, and agreement what the work is, and the estimate - any professional will do this anyway, but make sure it's in writing, so you don't have any problem later!

Dress twin! I have it in champagne/ivory and yes I am having a bustle added. I had my first fitting last week and I can tell you so far, it's the most expensive part. I had the shoulders taken up and it was pinned for the bustle and the total was almost $200. From what I could tell the underskirt will be bustled up under and then the lace will have three button/loops on the outside to be pulled up. Once it's bustled it will have more of a ballgown silhouette. At my next fitting I will have a sash attached and sewn into the back, which means I will need a 3rd fitting before the wedding once everything is done.

@rebecca I think that's what I want just a simple button hook, I don't mind it dragging a little I just don't want anyone stepping on it

I'm getting my dress altered at DB. I have a different dress. Just commenting for price here. They are hemming 5 and 3/4 inches on it, taking in a half inch on each side, adding six bustle points, and cutting the ribbons shorter for $276.

If you need pricing, maybe I can help. I work at a DB in Houston as an Alts CSR

Cups are $20 a pair, no matter the size. Bustle pricing is $50 for the first three points and $7 per point after that. So if your bustle was 6 points altogether, it would be 50 + 21 = $74 bustle

    Not including tax of course

This is my dress too! I'm having it bustled, and the price quoted was $75 pre tax. How are you doing the bustle? mine will start quite high on my thigh. it'll be folded (? i can't remember the exact wording) and i'll wear it bustled the whole time because I'm terrified someone will step on it and rip it.

Are you wearing a veil? The veil seems to be the most complicated part of this for me.

I pick it up on Saturday! I cannot wait!

That is my dress also!! My first fitting isn't until Aug 18th so I'll be following this board since I'm curious too. The one card they gave me just had starting prices which gave me no real idea of what everything could be.
