Davids Bridal Accessories, Yay or Na? How long should you wait to buy your dress?

Laine, on February 27, 2017 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

My wedding is in September 2018, I found my dress but the date is over a year a half away, (571 days to be exact but who is counting?! lol). I found my dress online and when I tried it on in the store I absolutely fell in love and got teary eyed. I want to buy the dress this June. Is this still too early? It will be 1 year and 4 months till the wedding and I won't have the dress back for minimum of 22 weeks.

I am getting my dress from David's Bridal but I wasn't sure about the accessories as they seemed kind of expensive ($200.00 for a veil and $75 for a belt). Do you think it would be best to get those accessories from there or to shop around? And if so, where do you suggest?

Thank you!

Depending on the veil and belt, they can get pretty expensive depending if there is a lot of hand beaded work. If they are simple you can find them cheaper elsewhere. Otherwise it will probably be expensive if the beading or crystals are done by hand.

I honestly don't think it's too early. Dresses can take a long time to ship and you don't want to risk going out of stock. I would encourage you too keep looking until June, and if you haven't found anything else by then then you know this dress is truly the one.

I wouldn't bother with the accessories there. 200 dollars for a veil is insane. You can find one of the same quality for 50 bucks. Look at any other bridal boutique or even online.

    Good luck! <3

If you really like the style of the belt and veil, definitely price shop. Three different shops tried to sell me very similar belts and veils; they started at around $75-$100. I ultimately found gorgeous ones on Etsy at a fraction of the price.

If you can have your dress from David's within 22 weeks, I'd push it out a bit and not order until 1 year out, at minimum. Styles and tastes can change a LOT in a few months time; search "Dress Regret" on here for some real-life examples. If you're the type of person who knows what you wants and won't change your mind, then go for it!

Becca, I've been scared that the dress will go out of stock in my size so I am definitely going to get it. I was thinking I could wait awhile but then I seen that even though some dresses were posted online, that didn't mean that the size I needed was actually there. When I realized that I panicked even more. I did think that price for a veil was insane and I am trying to find it somewhere else or maybe even go with a different style but I don't know, my dress is a princess dress and it is completely lace so I don't want to over do it or have a short veil where my shoulders are exposed and the dress is a completely full skirt. I don't know ... but I do know that I don't want to pay $200 for a veil with crystals!

Zaz, I searched "Dress Regret" but I am pretty firm on my dress, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I tried it on! I need to have it lol. I don't want my dress not to be there when I go to buy it, it is still in a relatively new collection but I don't want to miss it, I won't forgive myself for passing up what I fell in love with. I've considered other dresses and I don't even want them because it isn't my dress.

I've been looking on Etsy and the first 5 or 6 pages I went through, the price was basically the same with maybe 20 dollars off or 10 dollars off but nothing more. When I realized that, I figured that maybe I should just pay DB store price because they were practically similar, and I had already tried that on. I want a cathedral veil with crystals on it, so maybe that type of style is expensive? I haven't tried on other veils but this the style that I have always gravitated to.

My veil was $300 and my dress was being discontinued. My granny works at a bridal store and I got 25% off with her discount. I bought all of my accessories as in jewelry, shoes, veils, and a headpieces, too for dirt cheap with her discount. Veils are pricey especially if you get a handmade one, as someone mentioned before. I would say continue to check around. I have been getting judged because I already have my dress, but thats one less thing I have to worry about and my grandma can do alterations free of charge for me. So, whatever, haha.

I would say wait. Not very long though. I think closer to the end of the year would be better. Also, I ordered my dress and veil and accessories from there and the only thing i paid full price for was my gold headband and that was $150. Everything else (dress, veil, shoes) i got marked down. They have huge sale events and i would say wait. I paid $1200 for veil shoes and dress....when the dress originally cost $1138...but i waited until sale and used coupons to lower my price. A good thing about ordering in advance is that it gives you time to save or collect money for alterations. My alterations were $500 (just went to have alterations at DB done two weeks ago). i was NOT expecting that price ...lol

I found very similar accessories to the ones I saw at David's and loved on Etsy and Amazon for a fraction of the cost. I definitely recommend looking around.

If you love it, I would definitely buy the dress asap, you never know if it will sell out, or be placed on back order. I'm waiting for my dress still and kinda wish I started shopping earlier. Accessories can wait though, I still have yet to look for mine lol. I plan to look at Davids Bridal for my accessories or Etsy.

Search online for something cheaper for the belt and veil, davids bridal has ridiculous markup for their accessories. I got my veil online

If the dress is in stock in your size and color, it won't take 22 weeks. That is usually how long it takes to make a brand new dress for that style number likely. If they have your size and color it typically takes like 4 weeks.

I too bought my dress from David's Bridal. When I was looking for my dress, and during my fittings I tried on many accessories: Veils and headpieces. I fell in love with a veil $200 and a headpiece $200. I then decided to look online. I purchased my veil and headpiece for a total of $200 online from Cassandra Lynne https://cassandralynne.com/

ETA: I purchased my dress 8 months before my wedding date. I fell in love with it about 12 months before my wedding date. In between I tried on different dresses to make sure it was the one, it was.

I am going to continue to look around to see if I can buy my accessories cheaper. The dress however, I am skeptical to wait for a sale because it feels like Russian roulette, maybe ill get it, maybe I won't. I NEED to have this dress. It was recently on sale for a $100 dollars off but now it's back to regular price. Because the collection is relatively new (it is still being advertised on DB's website as being "new" I would rather pay full price for it before it is no longer there. I looked at Vera's other dresses and yes, those are on sale and they have been up for awhile (at least I think) and those are half priced and also house a size of 16 & up! I think waiting till June is enough play time lol I have to have this dress.

Check it out, we're date twins Smiley smile

I think if it's THE dress and you GOTTA have it, there's no time like the present! Are you planning any significant weight or body shape changes? That's the only reason I could think of to wait...

I bought my belt from David's bridal because even though it was more expensive that some other places it was exactly what I wanted. I shopped around for my veil and got a beautiful lace and sequined two-tiered veil and a rhinestone comb for $100 at a bridal show. It was more beautiful than anything I saw at DB. So just keep looking till you find exactly what you want.
