Dating your partner

Yasmine, on June 23, 2021 at 11:15 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 10 631

Just curious,

How long did you and your partner date before being engaged? My husband and I dated for exactly 3 years before he proposed. We made it official 10.06.16, he proposed 10.06.19, and we got married 10.06.20

What about you?

Like 6 1/2 years lol. I've waited a LONG time for this dang ring Smiley xd

I know that our relationship isn't defined by the ring, or any of that stuff, but goodness am I happy to finally be engaged and marrying my sweet guy!

We had only been dating for 10 months before he proposed. However, I made him wait over 2 years for the wedding! (Originally was going to be 24 months + 1 week from proposal, but ended up being 26 months + 3 weeks after COVID issues).

We were dating for a year and a half. We were friends in high school for almost five years before that though! Actually more like acquaintances rather than friends because we were both in marching band together and had tons of mutual friends and similar friend groups, but we never really talked or hung out other than occasional Facebook interactions on funny posts. We really started hanging out about a month before he asked me to be his girlfriend on December 6, 2016. We got engaged on July 4, 2018 & married on June 6, 2021. Smiley heart We were supposed to get married on December 6, 2020, but you know... just pandemic things.

Yes, he did! His line of thought was you know if you want to marry the person within 6 months, but I'm more on the lengthy end (I was in a relationship for 10 years prior to meeting him without an engagement, so my ideal amount of time was 2-3 years). The compromise was the long engagement. We ended up getting married on our 3 year anniversary.

We just celebrated 4 years together when we got engaged, we talked about it regularly and pretty early on. Knew we'd get married less than 6 months in. Life got in the way of our plans which is what put it back so far, but I told him as long as we got engaged before 10 years I'd be happy! Smiley xd

My fiancé and I had been dating 9 1/2 years when he proposed, although the first two years were a little rocky! We bought our house together after 3yrs and knew we were in this for the long haul. My family is accustomed to long relationships before proposals, so they never put pressure on us about when we would be engaged. When the proposal came, I was honestly shocked but did not have a doubt in my mind that he was my forever. He jokes that my diamond is so big because I was so patient!

I’m just about the same as you!
We dated 3 years. 1st date, even though we were official after that was NYE to end 2014. Proposed NYE to end 2017 and we got married Jan 2019. I really wanted a NYE wedding, but we had a Catholic ceremony and logistically could make it work (I am sure I could have but at the time I couldn’t make it make sense 🤷‍♀️)

We had been together for almost seven years when he proposed. It seems like a long time, but when we started dating we were in high school, and we were not in a rush to get married as we had already known we wanted to be life partners for some time.
