Custom hangers: was it worth it?

KristnH, on April 9, 2013 at 4:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

I'm considering either purchasing or making some of my own custom hangers for myself and my BMs. For those of you who have them - was it worth the time & effort (DIY) or the cost (purchase)? And did you put names or titles (ie. "Kristin" or "Bride," "Danielle" or "Maid of Honor")?

I am making mine. Bought wire for $8 at Lowes...craft stores are FAR more expensive....I think it will be fun!

I've ordered some but haven't received them yet. I went with names so they can keep on using them. I think they're a nice gift.

I only bought one for myself, and I think it was worth it because it made for some great photography/videography. I tried making one out of the wire I had at the house and no dice... it was a disaster. If it's a gift to the bridesmaids, I think that's fine, but it's really not going to matter much for them to use it the day of.

I would definitely use the bridesmaid's name. I used Mrs. InsertNewLastNameHere for mine Smiley winking

I had been planning on buying these, but then my sister bought them for all of us at christmas! She and my other sister are engaged, so we all have our future names. So I have one for myself. I thought it would be weird and probably not as wanted after that for my sisters. I think they are worth it just to get the shot, but will a normal girl want a hangar with her name on it? Maybe. With her role in your wedding on it? Probably not. But I am with RayRay, it is like a prop, but not really useful again. I wouldnt have paid much for it or attempted to DIY it for cheap.

I purchased one for myself... I wanted to see the quality of hanger and didn't want to order for all my bridesmaids if they didn't turn out good.. I love my hanger but I decided to take on the job of DIY for my bridesmaids...I only made 1 so far with my sister/bridesmaid name on it.. I posted a pic of it a week ago on here.. It is time consuming but I have time and I got 3 more to make.. Also It's a lot cheaper to make than buy...if they never use it again, i don't care..it cost me$12-13 for material for all.. I just like it for photos.

It kind of sounds like if I get a hanger, I should just get one for myself and find something else to add to the BM gifts. (Edit): I don't want to get them something they're just going to never use again... Maybe I'll try to DIY one and see how I feel about it, or follow your lead @Val and get mine before considering any others.

    Thanks ladies!

How can they not use a hanger again? I never have enough hangers. Perhaps I should stop buying clothes....

J&B, I'm sure they would use it again.... but it would be stuck in the back of the closet with an old prom dress hanging on it or something.

I am also toying with this idea. Some of the vendors on etsy are pretty reasonable priced and the only bad reviews I could find was that it took a while to get the order. I have till novemeber so I am not too worried

I just placed a order for mine this week, mine will say Mrs Jackson, BM's will have their name. I paid $30.00 including shipping for 3, so I couldn't pass up

If I got a hanger with my name on it.. I would certainly use it again.. I would Hang one of my fancy going out dresses on it. Lol ... That's just me..Everyone is different..but we can't assume no one will ever use it again.

I use mine for coats. I can't use it in my closet because all of my other hangers match. It was nice for pics but I wouldn't do them for bridesmaids.

@KristnB, I bought mine from a seller off of Etsy, creationsbytilly , if you decided to go with her give yourself plenty of time is the word that other ladies on here have given.

I made my best friends for her wedding, which she will get at her shower. I'm also making one for me, and then all of my bridesmaids with their first names on them. I love DIY projects, and it's much cheaper to do yourself.

If you are making these just make sure you have the right glue or wrap the wire around the hanger. I was a bridesmaid for my sil, she made these for all 9 girls, very cute and ambitious but they came apart before we even took pictures of them. Mine is now another unadorned hanger in my closet. For the bride, very cute in pictures for the other ladies I would skip them.

My mum is actually knitting/crocheting cute lil covers to put over plain hangers in our wedding colours. I thought it was cute and a lil unique Smiley smile
