Cups sewn into dress or plunging back bra?

C + R, on February 19, 2014 at 10:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 50

Does anyone have any experience with cups sewn into their dress or with a plunging-back bra? My dress is too low-cut in the back for a regular strapless bra (see below), and I was planning on having my seamstress sew cups into my dress... until I saw the plunging-back bra below on Pinterest. Now I'm no sure which to go with.

I prefer the idea of sewn-in cups because I know my bra won't end up showing in any of my pictures and also because I think they will be more comfortable. But I am a little concerned that, with the top of my dress being so stiff, my ta-ta's will end up making an appearance at some point in the evening. They don't exactly fill out my dress-top, if you know what I mean. =/

Does anyone have experience with sewn-in cups? Do they keep things pretty secure as you move around? Or would I be better-off going with a bra similar to the one below and hoping it doesn't show?

Thanks in advance!!

The sewn-in cups my seamstress had weren't very supportive. I'm hoping she uses push-up ones instead of the ones she had at my fitting. I'm leaning more towards using the sticky chicken-cutlet type bra, but I want/need a little extra "oomph!" to enhance the girls!

Here ya go.... I have DD boobs, for reference. My dress is also very tight/fitted, so my girls don't shift around. I didn't need anything extra. I did, however, buy those clear silicone things to help give my boobs some lift. I didn't pay 4 grand to not show these girls off!

I had my seamstress sew in cups. I can never keep strapless bras to stay up-they are around my waist by the end of the night. I think as long as your dress is fitted well, you should be fine.

Do the sew-in cups have underwire or are they just pads that sit on top of the breast?

The one my seamstress had looked more like a breastfeeding pad. It was round and pretty thin, no underwire or support/shape to it at all. Kinda like this... I didn't like it and asked her for push-up sew-in cups. I hope she fixes it! :-/

I really need some extra oomph here, too! And I'm also afraid of a bra slipping to places it shouldn't and having to adjust it all evening...

LMAO Jesse's girl-- I totally agree! I'm going to have to check the silicone things out; I haven't heard of them! Mine are always in need of some oomph...

Julie, I'm not sure-- I've never used them before. I'm assuming they are just pads. I'm not sure if they make underwire ones or not, but those are probably what I would need if they do. I'm used to wearing underwires that add a cup size every day.

Oh my tiki monkey-buns, those would never work for me either!! Good thing you have the option to fix it!

I'm having cups sewn in, but I also purchased the sticky boob things from target to give me a little more lift because I too have trouble filling out the front of my dress. The cups she's sewing in have the pushup oomp on the inner bottom, and look like the Victoria's Secret bras that "add two cup sizes". I have my final fitting tomorrow, so I can report back. I'm hoping for a nice little bit of cleavage, while working with not a whole lot from the beginning.

ETA: added photo to show the back of my dress, even though it's the sample that's totally pinned haha.

I had the cups sewn in too

it wasn't underwire, it was more like... a pad thing that my boobs kind of, sat on? i wish i had a pic of the cups but i don't. it sounds like @ArborDay has the same thing

Thanks ArborDay! I agree-- I'd love to see what the cups look like. Two cup sizes would be amazing. And please keep me posted as to whether you feel like you'll be safely tucked in with them!

PS-- the back of your dress is absolutely gorgeous!!

I think sewn-in ones might be more comfortable. Strapless bras tend to have rubber strips in them to stop them from slipping which can leave red marks on your skin (and hurt by the end of the day). Either that or I just have bad luck with strapless bras!

Will do! I haven't taken any pictures through my other two fittings and the last has been pushed back for 2 weeks because of the snow we keep getting, so these ladies better be prepared for some serious picture taking. I'll take all the pictures I can. Smiley smile

I had cups sewn into my dress. Im vet small busted so I didn't fill my dress out either but with the cups and her taking in the side a bit, its now nice and snug against my boobs. Im very happy I took her advice and now I don't have to deal with a strapless bra!

I'm getting the cups but I don't know if they would work well for the "more endowed" I have more of an athletic build so I'm totally ok with it. The bra looks mighty uncomfortable though.

Following this thread, as I have been wondering the same thing. My dress doesn't need anything but I would like the girls to be more supported and not like I have three kids. Smiley smile

I've always had cups sewn in but I'm also not very gifted in that department! I've used the sticky chicken cutlet bras before and I think I'm actually allergic to whatever they synthetic rubber they are. Anytime I've worn them, I've broken out in a rash or hives!

Both! LOL. My dress has a round/cup shape to it but my boobs are so small they don't fill it out so the mgr at AA said we would sew cups into the dress. I said the more the merrier, I want to give these girls a lift and she said "I'm all about false advertisement" haha. I want cups in my cups on my wedding day!
