Cupcake Contingency Plans?

GryffinBride, on June 3, 2016 at 6:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

Here's the deal: We are doing a small gluten-free cake for FH, myself and a few relatives with gluten allergies. Everyone else has the option of two kinds of cupcakes. Well, I'm freaking out now because our cupcake vendor hasn't responded to me in 3 weeks. I've tried calling, texting, and emails. We do have a contract with her, so if she bails I have some teeth, but I was wondering about contingency plans. Should I get in touch with another bakery and just be prepared for this vendor not to follow through?

I'm really worried tha another baker won't be able to fulfill the order so I'm open to other suggestions of what to serve the guests.

I think it might be best to get in touch with another bakery so you have a back up plan just in case, hopefully the second bakery doesn't bail or both come through and you have a lot of cupcakes. but I would call email and text the original bakery like crazy this week and if they don't respond get someone else

ETA because I can't think straight ugh

Eek! Is it a local bakery? If so, I'd just drop by and ask why they haven't been responding to you.

It is a local bakery, but the owner does it out of her house. There is no guarantee that she would be there if I drop in.

She's not a friendor and has great reviews. One of my friends used her for their wedding and the cupcakes are delicious. I have no idea why it haven't heard from her and I know life happens, but I'm running out of time!

It couldn't hurt to just see if other bakeries could try and accommodate your order. What an awful way for someone to conduct their business Smiley sad so sorry you're dealing with this!

If possible, I would show up on the door step every morning, noon, and evening until I nailed them down. If they get mad, too bad. They should have responded to your texts and calls.

I'd drop in to her house/place of work. If she's not there leave a note in the mailbox or under the door.

I'd try to stop by and see what is going on. Have you stalked her on FB to see if everything is ok?

Just because I like to be prepared, if I cannot find anothwr bakery that can do it, what should I do? I really don't like the idea of grocery store cupcakes.

It might be a good kick in her ass to look at other vendors, too. Maybe she will keep in touch if she thinks there's a chance you'll go elsewhere. Also, more tastings :-)

In all honesty, when you get down to the wire you have to make a decision and move with it. I am sure grocery store cupcakes aren't what you had in mind, but if you have to go that route, get the best ones you can and get rid of the stress.

I hope she does come through for you, but if not, just go with the grocery and let it go. Do you have a Costco around you. We don't (yet) but I hear their cake is phenomenal.

With no response in 3 weeks, and your wedding so close, I would!

Where do you live? I'm in Florida and our grocery store Publix has the BEST cake ever. Considering using them for our wedding cake! Otherwise I'd reach out to multiple bakeries just so you have a solid back up plan in place. I wouldn't trust her at this point.

Do you have a Gigi's or other specialty cupcake place in town? I would also go out an buy a few different grocery stores cupcakes and find the one that tastes the best and get the info on placing an order, just in case.

Costco makes some pretty good baked goods. It might not be a bad backup plan. So frustrating. I am sorry you are dealing with.

I would reach out to someone else and ask the question of "hey can you be my back up with a quick turn around?" Find out what their cut off time would be and keep trying to reach out to original vendor until then. Is she not answering emails or phone calls or both?

    Costco would be good.

Otherwise tell her you need to here from her by - Wednesday? Tuesday?or you will need to find another person and expect a full refund immediately
