Cubic Zirconia

Erin, on June 29, 2016 at 11:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 66

Hi ladies, I wanted to get some input from you. What are your feelings about Cubic Zirconia rings? Is it tacky or is is it a good choice if you want a beautiful looking ring that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

It depends on you. If you're happy with it and you're not going to constantly wish you had a diamond, then go for it. Just make sure it's set in quality metal like gold or platinum, not silver.

Honestly as long as you don't need a wheel barrel to carry it, I kind of assume everyone's rings are "real" as in diamond if they're white looking and leave it at that. I love all things sparkle and would still marry my FH even if I didn't get a ring because I got a commitment that I get to annoy him for the rest of his life!

So, actually my wedding band is Cz and silver. I don't expect it to last a long time, but it works really well with my engagement ring. I got it kind of just as a test to see if that style would work, and then I figured it looked fine enough and I was tired of looking. Either I'll eventually decide to just stick with my engagement ring, or I'll enjoy wearing both and replace it with a more durable version of it when it breaks. I'm not very sentimental about wedding bands.

I'm not sure I would be comfortable with a big Cz engagement ring, though-- it seems like from other people on here that random people make inappropriate comments about rings a lot. I imagine that if you had what appeared to be a massive diamond, you'd probably get lots of awkward comments about how much FH spent or whatever. For me that would be really weird.

Try it a very nice stone. Pricer than cubic zirconia but very nice. I used a mossinate ring as my travel ring and lock my real diamond in my safe. http://www.moissanite.com/rings/engagement-rings/helga-150ctw-square-cut-forever-classic-moissanite-ring-platinum-plated-silver-1

I thought about getting a CZ or moissanite center stone for my ring (went with a sapphire instead) and if you get a good quality CZ, most people won't even be able to tell that it is not a diamond, if that matters to you. If it doesn't matter to you, still a good thing. If you're all about saving some money, I think it's totally fine.

The real question is how do YOU feel about it? Are you asking because that's what you have, want, or don't want?

FH asked if I wanted CZ or moissanite to "get the ring faster". I told him I'd rather wait for a real diamond.

I am so glad I did. I truly love my ring and stone. It has a very high level of fire (so much so it's almost blingy at times). I know had I not waited, (not so) deep down I would have been very disappointed.

I am searching for moissonite (sp?) for our honeymoon. I'm with punkin, though, on knowing deep down I would have been disappointed if I didn't have the real thing.

If budget is an issue now, there are so many other real stone rings or even estate rings for wonderful prices.

My ring is moissanite and I love it! If you know for sure that you're happy with a CZ then go for it. Like someone else said, most ppl assume that white stones are diamonds anyway so no biggie.

What's the hate of silver people?

Silver can make gorgeous jewellery that last if you take care of it. I get the amount of time needed to clean and polish it isn't ideal for everyone but it's still quality metal.

That aside if you like it go for it. It's going to be on your finger, no one else's

I agree with @punkin as well. FH asked me the same thing, I waited 5 years for the real thing.

I think it comes down to personal preference. I almost chose a blue topaz but changed my mind and went with diamonds in white gold for my e-ring. My wedding band is actually silver and will be upgraded one day...we had budget restraints. I am a truck driver and am terrified of damaging my ring on the road, so I wear my silver claddagh ring when working instead of my e-ring.

I think its totally a better choice personally - my main stone is a topaz. Honestly diamonds are the only thing that is so expensive and also worthless.....

Will say this... FH was engaged before (He called it off.) She pushed him to get engaged. He couldn't afford the ring she wanted, so they got a CZ as the center stone. She lied to everyone and said it was a real flawless diamond. He has said he felt like the whole engagement was fake just like the ring, that it was all for show. He was very insistent on saving up, buying a very high quality stone for me because I "am the real deal".

Obviously everyone's situation is unique though.

Wear whatever stone make you happy within the budget that you can afford. Specifically no, I don't consider CZ to be tacky.

I'm not a clear stone person. My e-ring is amethyst and sterling as I'm allergic to gold. CZ can be beautiful and are not tacky so long as the stone isn't massive. Another plus to cz is that it is lighter. Get what you feel amazing wearing and don't worry about the 'tackiness"

I would get something like a moissanite or white sapphire instead of a CZ. CZs can get fuzzy and dull over time and just don't have the same quality. Also I would make sure it was gold or platinum so that your ring holds up. I don't think it needs to be a diamond but I wouldn't want something that won't look great in 60 years.
