Courthouse & Dinner

Halie, on August 18, 2020 at 9:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
My FH and I decided we want to be married this year. We are getting rid of all the “fluff” of wedding planning and opting for the courthouse then dinner option. Next year we are going to do a view renewal, just the two of us, in a destination location. That way we can have the best of both worlds.

To the brides who were married at the courthouse, what touches did you add to make it feel like a typical wedding day? We have talked about... still dressing up, hair and make up, sending invitations, first look, professional photographer, cake, toast, and dinner with our 10-25 guests. (The guest count depends on what is allowed at the time. The courthouse we REALLY WANT is still closed right now.)

This is my 3rd marriage & his 1st. I’ve done the courthouse thing but have never had a “real” wedding. My FH wants the traditional wedding & I am so glad he does! The courthouse just didn’t feel special. I like your ideas & it seems like you’ve included a lot of what typically happens at a wedding. Maybe include a hand written card to him for him to read before the 1st look?

I got married at the courthouse, as planned. There are a lot of people on this site who dismiss courthouse weddings as not "real" weddings, but that is certainly not my experience. I felt like a bride and my husband felt like a groom. We had a lovely wedding and celebrated with our ~20 guests with a meal at a restaurant after, complete with cake cutting and speeches.

All of your plans sounds great. Definitely dress up, send invitations, have a photographer, and have all of the wedding components you want. Your guests will enjoy your intimate, personalized wedding and so will you.

I'd definitely dress up, have a bouquet, and do professional pictures afterwards! You could even go to a restaurant afterwards for a nice meal or do a mini at-home celebration. ❤️
