Courthouse wedding experience?

Jacqulyn, on May 29, 2020 at 10:31 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3
Hello everyone! I’m a very simple woman and so I opened for a courthouse marriage. Except, it’ll be performed at the JP’s office. Anyways, to those who had it done, what should I expect? I have extreme anxiety, so me knowing the whole play by play really helps a lot! Thanks!!

I went with my brother few years ago when he got married. We walked into room. The Officiant introduced herself checked their ID's She did ask if they had their own vows written which they did. they read them she read her part asked the I Do's pronounced them we took a few pictures in the room. It was 4 of us. They signed, she signed and they were officially married.

I have been one of 2-4 guests for many with JP. A common thing in NH .
Each one had a room furnished like a large study, no particular office stuff showing, but a nice desk, a grouping of a few living room type chairs, and either cushioned been he's, or 2 seat sofas. Each had a wall clearly intended as a backdrop for pictures. Sometimes a fireplace or mantel, with no objects near head level. Sometimes a bare mid-tone wall and carpet area. A few had patio doors opening to gardens. A couple had such nice French glass doors, or a carved and gorgeous staircase, that were kept clear with picture opportunities in mind. Papers always signed at a large desk. You must present your marriage licence, picture ID, and certified copies of any spouse's death certificate, or final divorce decree or annulment papers . No photo copies. NH has private JP's who travel or have an office. And each courthouse has one available for a $125-$150 fee. Call in advance. 15 minutes, about. I have been in states where a judge or magistrate does them in a judge's chambers . At the courthouse, you may go back to the clerk and get your certified marriage certificate. And leave with it. Useful if traveling. JP homes or offices, like clergy in churches, they submit paperwork, and you fill out a form to get it in 7-10 days.
