Cost of Wedding Officiant

Heather , on May 13, 2017 at 12:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 45

Whats the price range for someone to officate a wedding? Most of the information I have seen on this site and others seems several years old. I have found a big range everything from $275-$1,000 or more. I want someone to give us a personalized service and come to the rehersal

The "recommended donation to the clergy discretionary fund" for my priest, with a ceremony at the church, is $300.

Ours is $475. I think it's a bit high for our area but we really like him.

We are paying $500 for our personalized service and unlimited meetings before the wedding, with travel up to 50 miles. It's another $100 for the rehearsal dinner.

Our venue has the option to use their officiant for a fee of $300 on top of the venue rental fee.

To have a more personal ceremony, a family friend that is a judge will be performing our ceremony. He has asked us not to pay him but we will be covering his hotel room for 2 nights and including him in the rehearsal dinner and reception.

This is highly regional and highly dependent on talent. (Talent is in short supply on TT, and honestly, 125.00 for an officiant in NJ is scary low unless all they are doing is signing the license.) Other factors; if the officiant is supported by a church or a temple and if they do it full time. I"m sorry hobbyists do not do this as well as people who do this as a living. They don't have as much practice and they don't do it as often.

This is another area where the cheapest isn't usually the way to go unless you honestly just want the ceremony to be over ASAP and you really don't care what happens. We all have priorities, and for many people the ceremony is not one of them.

Our fees for our full ceremonies (as opposed to elopements) , in northern NJ outside of NYC, ranges from 450-750. Travel, if extreme, is more. We don't generally do rehearsals; our venues don't even offer this most of the time. They can't; they are booking Thursday-Sunday nights now, so we do a quick walkthrough on the day. Although we usually put the processional blueprint together, having us there an additional day is a waste of your money. If you think about it, on the day, we're the first people up the aisle. We can't help you, time your BP or cue musicians once we're up there. And since your BP's enthusiasm for a day of rehearsing is usually pretty low, rehearsals always run late and no one really pays attention.

When we do rehearsals, our fee is usually 150-250.00

I live in North Jersey. For the personalized ceremony, rehearsal attendance, and travel fees--it came to about 900.00... We loved our officiant from our first conversation. She has been worth every cent. Her professionalism, experience, and overall attitude is amazing. I can't wait to see what she puts together for us. This was something that I was willing to spend more on if the person was right.

Wow. Pretty big discrepancy between. The cost of officiants where I live (Australia) and where I presume the majority of you live (U.S I'm presuming) We are paying $700 and a hundred was knocked off the price because it was off season. Having said that though, it was one of the wedding costs that we thought was actually good value for money - our officiant travelled to our place to meet with us for our first meeting, came back and met at our place to read over the first draft of the ceremony and will be at the venue for the rehearsal and ceremony obviously. He has been on top of emails and has been very accommodating with changes. I think he has gone above and beyond and $700 is very good value for money for that kind of above and beyond service.

Just like a DJ, Venue, or Florist. youll get a wide range of prices. From what ive seen the lower range, is usually generally bland/generic. You want something a little nicer/different custom it will be on the higher end. Our officiant is doing alot of work prior to the wedding to make a custom ceremony for us. Had us both answer approx 45 questions both and email our answers in to learn about us. From there he will put it into a ceremony and run it by us to see how we like it. As well as working with our DJ/photographer to have them set up for the music/perfect spots to get photos at what part of the ceremony(instead of missing key parts from the wrong angle). All in all he will prob spend 10-20 hrs working with us. We are paying 500 for Northern NJ.
