cost of photography- destination wedding

abozzuto, on August 22, 2017 at 10:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi everyone!

I am getting married next October in Mexico. I have heard mixed reviews about the photography that comes with your wedding package at an all inclusive resort, so we want to hire a photographer. Originally we were going to fly a photographer to Mexico and pay for their flight, stay and services. That ends up being very expensive, Instead, I found a photographer from Mexico, 20 minutes away from the resort. I had seen them on a blog post from another wedding ( same resort!!). I was just wondering what other people have paid for their photography/videography package or what you would be willing to spend. My wedding will be small, so I am scared i am going overboard.

I have no idea what a photographer based out of Mexico charges, but wedding photography prices in the United States vary widely, based on experience, location, what's included, etc. Hiring a US-based photographer and flying them to a destination can be quite expensive, but some photographers offer a discount for destination weddings. It could be a good idea to hire a Mexico-based photographer, as long as you love his/her work AND there will be no communication/language barriers.

In the United States (specifically eastern panhandle of West Virginia), we paid about $3,200 for 6.5 hours of photography (and added on videography after that).

Just keep in mind that wedding photography is often one of a couple's biggest splurges, and with good reason (it's the only thing you have left - besides a spouse - after the wedding is over). Photography is not something you want to go cheap on for your wedding!

This particular photographer is including 1 photographer, 1 videographer, and two assistants, who occasionally shoot and help with lighting. Two videos and 600 pictures. 8 hours.

I have no idea about pricing regarding the photographer in Mexico. What I can advise on is hiring a photographer who specializes in destination wedding photography. Hiring a local photographer and then having them get to the destination can be a huge problem. Knowing how to pack, what to pack, understanding the flight regulations, and then just being willing to take that risk with all your gear is a calling not very many photographers are willing to do.

Might I suggest contacting Elmer Escobar with TNK. He will be able to guide you.

I paid 3000 for my DW. I got 200 pics, 1 canvas and 1 photo book. I felt it was high Bc all I wanted was the pics and we only had the photographer for 2.5 hours but he did great work. Bc of the limited time, he missed doing a lot of group wedding photos.

I was not allowed to use my own. Or I would have flown in someone Bc it wouldn't have cost that much more and I would have had her for the whole day. I had reached out to someone in my area and with travel it was 4k. It all depends on what you are getting for the price as well as the quality

I'm getting married in Cancun in May 2018. Our photographer is charging $2,400 for 6 hours and 550-650 photos.

Also check with your resort about who their preferred vendor is, as some resorts do charge a fee to use outside vendors.
