Cost of DIY centerpieces

Lauren20, on February 20, 2010 at 5:18 PM

Okay, so I just did some math, and for all the stuff to make the centerpieces plus the crystals, candles, and candle holders for the tables each table will cost about $20 to make. This cuts the budget in half of having a decorator come in and do it. But, is $20 per table too much?? Thoughts??

Anyone know where I can get some manzanita branches for cheap (the most expensive part of my center). I've searched and searched but can't find it for $13 ea(not completely true, I found one place that had them for $9.40 or so but the shipping was out of control~ so the more expensive ones won.)

MrsJoseph...I found some that come out to be about $4.90 a branch. I did not figure out shipping as I am unsure of where you live. What I found was a case of 30 branches at $146.98 a case. If you divide it out, it's about $4.90. The URL is below.

I wouldn't say it's too much. DIY doesn't have to mean cheap. As long as you're getting what you want and it's in your budget go for it.

    Thank you ladylee.

@ summerbride...I am getting my crystals from the site below. I haven't decided exactly which ones I am ordering yet, so I cannot tell you the cost for sure. I will be ordering them sometime over the summer. Anyway, I will definitely be getting some of the wholesale packs. The link to those is on the left. I will just let you explore the site a bit. @Lauren - that sounds pretty good!

Right now I'm near 170 people - including the wedding party. It will go up (do I sound bitter, cause I am :-) but I'm cutting *someone* off at the knees at 200. That should equal out to 20 tables - so I'd have 10 left over. That avg. to about $7.35 ea but shipping was included...thats a good deal!

With the price of the branch dropping about $5 and getting rid of some items that I don't *have* to have, I think I can knock it down to about $25 per table. Have to find some cheap pot holders (estimated price) now.

Lauren, I think I'm moving into your brain :-)

Mine are costing about $4 a piece, but I'm not doing flowers. I think as long as you have the time to do it and your saving money then you're doing good.

Lol @ MrsJoseph...I'm not sure what your venue looks like, but with the extra branches you could put more of the centerpieces on like the guestbook table and such. If its a buffet reception, you could put one or two of them on that table too. This way you could use some of the extras.

What exactly are pot holders?? I can help find them maybe. Smiley smile

A couple other ways to save money

    1. Sign up for the email list on sites you're considering ordering from

    2. Google for coupon codes. It's very seldom that I CAN'T find a coupon code.
