Cost of DIY centerpieces

Lauren20, on February 20, 2010 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 38

Okay, so I just did some math, and for all the stuff to make the centerpieces plus the crystals, candles, and candle holders for the tables each table will cost about $20 to make. This cuts the budget in half of having a decorator come in and do it. But, is $20 per table too much?? Thoughts??

Oh, and the cost is within our budget, I'm just wondering if that is too much to spend on a DIY project.

I think that depends on your budget and how many tables you are having. My centerpieces cost is about $7 per table and then another $7 for the table cloth and runner. So I'm paying $14 per table.

No definitely not...I know when I was looking to do floral centerpieces they were easily going to cost $50-75 each table, and that was minimum. If you have a design that you love and it is only going to cost 20 dollars/table, go for it.

I've changed them a bit but I have a picture of the basic design in my inspiration board. There is also going to be a gold fish in the fish bowl when I am finished. I got most of it from the dollar store and I bought the fake orchid stim with a discount coupon when they were on sale.

Mine are costing about $16.00 each if I did my math correctly. That's not too bad considering the kind of vase and type of flowers. They are crackled, cylinder type vases. I'm putting 7 calla lilies in each with the crystal marbles to make them stable. Its kind of expensive, I think, for diy centerpieces, but oh well. I have 18 of them and they will definitely be for sell when this mess is all done next weekend. There are definitely cheaper diy centerpieces, but I want what I want.

I think $20 is reasonable. With that many tables thats about $720 if I did my math right. Is that just centerpieces or the entire tablescape? The next question do you want to look for cheaper alternatives or do you love what you picked out?

Shdvl...That is the whole table scape. I believe I have the cheapest of the things I need. I love the materials I have. Also, I know I could find cheaper crystals for the table but the ones I found are swarovski and I'm in love with them. That is one of the things I want to keep. I guess I was just didn't want people to think I am crazy for spending that kind of money on centerpieces. But...these I can sell once my wedding is over and make at least some of my money back. Smiley smile

Damn! I priced my DIY centers at $57 each!! (a lot of it is shipping)

I'm here feeling like a slacker, now. How did you ladies manage to get the price that low?

You get your prices low by doing research research research! Anything I've purhased I did hours of looking and searching first to make sure I could get what I want for the absolute lowest price possible. It was funny because the same exact vases I found at an online store for $5 a piece, I found another place for $1 each.

That is a GREAT price. i would average for everything about 15-25 per table for my DIY centerpieces as well. you just have to think to yourself, can you make them all & make them the way you want or do you need the help? but in the end DIY sometimes cures it all because its cheaper and you are doing them so of course it will be the way you want it to be. but i agree with JNAS-research on the internet, call stores or venture to craft stores, yard sales, thrift stores or even places like target/walmart...you never know what you can find & for awesome prices. oh & dont forget the $ store, they have wedding sections & of course they are at a low price, just $1. good luck!
