Corset vs Zipper

Suzie_Cue, on July 28, 2016 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 46

I am thinking about changing my zippered dress to a corset because the corset dresses I tried gave my shape some definition. However, corset is not forgiving to back fat IMO. What is your preference and why?

Can you post a picture of the back of your dress?

I do not have one. I am just curious on people's personal choice, not specifically for my dress. Smiley smile

Just a personal preference, but zipper for me. I don't care for corsets.

Corsets were very unforgiving to my back fat! I didn't even think I had back fat until I tried one on. I ended up going with a zipper

You can have a (good) seamstress add a corset to your dress on the inside so it zips up over it so you get the definition but don't lose any detail work due ot the corset.

i always thought i wanted a corset, but my dress had a zipper and it was EVERYTHING Smiley smile

Most of the time, "back fat" in a corset is not fat, it's migrated breast tissue, and it means you're wearing the wrong size bra.

By wearing the right size bra, that tissue will migrate back to the breasts and get rid of the "back fat" look.

Corsets don't have to be unforgiving. They can be made with a fabric panel behind the laces so your skin doesn't show through. I honestly think those look classier anyway. Good luck!

This was at my last fitting trying it on. As you can see, I'm not tiny by any means, lol, yet none of the back fat "rolls" from the corset. And it was tight.

Great info on properly measuring and fitting yourself for a bra, and why stores like JC Penney and Victoria Secret don't know what they're doing.

I thought about doing this too!

But once my zipper dress was correctly altered to fit I love it and am glad I didn't go for the corset.

Just a heads up-- putting in a corset is super expensive.

They both have pros and cons. Zippers are less expensive and easier to put on.

Corsets (in my opinion) look better but are more expensive (especially if it's not already on your dress) and they are harder to put on.

I love the way the corset back looks and I feel as though it will be more forgiving regarding if I lose or gain a couple of pounds.

Mine's zipper with buttons. I wanted a sash and didn't want to double over corset. I prefer this much more. I may get a bustier or just have cups sewn in! Once it's altered correctly, it shouldn't move.

I like corsets, I like the look of them. My dress is a zipper and I'm 90% sure I will be changing it to a corset (the sample was too small so I have not seen what it looks like zipped yet)

Kristen: corsets really aren't that expensive. My hem cost more than adding my corset, and I had it done at David's Bridal. My corset was $90 (I provided the lacing, which I got via Lacees.com who sells DIY corset kits and the laces), which saved me about $40 off of DB's price (it was $15 through Lacees). My hem was $150.
