Conveying to your photographer the style you want

Claudia, on October 26, 2019 at 1:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi everyone! So my venue comes with a photographer so it's a great deal. I've met with him and seen his photos and he's a great guy, and very talented. However, most of his photos are a kind of dramatic very saturated style. I really like a softer, more ethereal look to the photos.

How can I explain to him what I want when it doesn't seem to be his typical style? I wouldn't want to switch photographers as I would be losing money and his work is great, just not exactly the style I want.

If you have a Pinterest page started with the type of photos you want I would share that with him and make sure he has your vision.

I agree with Cyndy. I love the photos our photographer takes, but there were certain poses I wanted and she was more than happy for me to send her ideas.

I think if you want different poses that’s fine to tell them but if you want a different editing style you’ll probably need to find a different photographer.

It sounds like what you want is a different editing style, which in that case, you might want to look at other photographers.

Poses and specific shots are one thing, but editing style is a big differentiator between photographers, and I haven't seen any that do multiple types of editing.

After all, photography is an art form, and most photographers have a signature style. They don't often change it.

You could try asking him if he has experience with the kind of editing you're looking for, but I agree with Kelly and Megan that you may want to consider looking at other photographers.

I came across a ton of wildly talented photographers in my search, but a lot of them specialized in darker, moodier editing, which I 110% did not want. So I kept searching until I found a photographer that had a portfolio filled with the kind of look I was going for.
