Considering Switching to Destination Wedding

Kendra, on May 19, 2020 at 8:16 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 8

Hi Ladies! We were planning on getting married on 9.25.2020 in Boston, Ma, but our governor has laid out little to no plan or guidelines surrounding weddings and re-opening the state. We have been talking back and forth with a resort on Marco Island, that are already excepting guests. We would change out guest list from 165 people to an intimate family setting of about 30 people. We have been planning for over a year and really don't want to postpone. Any one else considering this as well?

I’m from Boston too! He literally gives us no hope. My wedding is August 2nd and I have no idea what to do. I definitely don’t want to wait either so I might just have to reduce our guest count as well. I hope we get answers soon!

Yes it is tough. I just can't imagine having a wedding where everyone is wearing masks and you can't dance etc...

I’m from the Worcester area and yeah he made no mention of party sizes going up etc giving us no indication! we’ve decided to cancel and do something small with our immediate family only. We were supposed to be married 9/19

Personally, I love your idea of downsizing and going to Marco Island (One of my favorite cities). But how would you let the other guests know that you're downsizing or did you not send out Save-the-Dates?

Florida is definitely on the upswing of reopening, and until the Northeastern States get it together and form a solid plan, it could leave you in limbo for awhile.

That is so wonderful to hear! Yes my sister and I plan to fly out to check out the resort, meet with some vendors etc. And my plan I guess was to send out some kind of correspondence saying we decided instead of canceling, to continue on, but with a small intimate ceremony with our immediate family and that we will live stream the ceremony so everyone can still be included. Do you think that is reasonable? If you have ideas I would so love to hear them. We just don't want to do anything until it is finalized.

I'm not sure what your plans were. I can share that our wedding plans are pretty unconventional. My FH and I are "early birds" - We rarely sleep in and if we do, it's never past 7. So, when choosing our location we always envisioned the East Coast. Our initial plans were in Maine atop Cadillac Mountain (the first light from the sunrise along the Eastern Seaboard). We both wanted a Sunrise wedding, Long story short, we ultimately opted for the Keys. We'll be getting married at sunrise in the Upper Keys followed by brunch reception which includes a Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. The wedding festivities will be over by noon, allowing time for our guests to enjoy the amenities at the resort either with us or on their own. We wanted everyone to feel like if they choose to come, they can enjoy the resort amenities (which there are many) drive 2 hours to the Keys or Miami Beach area.

I'm not sure where on Marco Island you will be, but you should have a great view of both sunrise and sunset. What we also found out was doing a sunrise wedding was going to be considerably less expensive and the Resort is thrilled because they can actually host 2 weddings in the same day.

I love that!! We originally wanted the keys as well, but were thinking Marco Island as it is closer to the airport! Thank you, it makes me feel better I am not totally crazy for thinking of this idea! I hope your big day is magical!
