Considering not touring oot venue

Charlotte, on May 1, 2019 at 8:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hello! I am in Illinois, but my fiancé and I are having our wedding in Minnesota. I have my heart set on a venue based on pictures and even a "3D tour" online. If I flew out to MN I could only be there for around 2 full days, and it's frankly just not in our budget to be flying back and forth right now. is it okay to book a venue you've never seen? Can you sign a contract if you aren't in person? Any help or experience you all have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I dont know about the contracts, but I booked my venue without technically taking a tour. I went to an event there about 10 years ago, so I mostly know what it's like. Mine was also free though, so that's mostly why I chose it.

I ended booking our venue without seeing it because I discovered it after I got back home in another state. It was the right price for us and we were going to make do with what we got. I’ll be touring it in July so I can get more concrete details down. Most places will usually work with you on signing a contract remotely if needed.

As for whether you should do it, that’s completely up to you and your comfort level. If your venue turns out to be worse than you thought (worse case scenario), would you be okay that? Would you be willing to make it work? You don’t get the feel of the entire space virtually and that can be a big factor based on your headcount. But I think if it can fit your guests comfortably and you like he pics of the precious weddings there, I would go for it’s

I've signed all of my contracts either via DocuSign, email, or snail mail for nearby venues and vendors.

I would not recommend it. When we were shopping for venues, I was honestly shocked as to the difference in looks from the pictures on sites like WW and in person. Good photography can do a lot. There were a few venues I thought looked amazing in photos and were a downright dump in person. I signed all my contracts online, so that shouldn't be an issue. I would just be afraid of what the space I agreed to actually looks like in real life.

Thanks. We're actually towards the minimum of the guest count, so it's going to be plenty of space for us. It also has raving reviews so I'm not too worried. This helps, thank you!

We booked our venue off a FaceTime tour and I have to say I am super pleased that the venue was exactly as pictured! Like you, we didn’t have the time or money to be flying between states and our venue was incredibly accommodating to getting everything signed via online. I’d say read reviews, definitely talk to the vendor and see if you can do a tour via Skype or FaceTime and talk through the vision of the day and see how you and your partner feel afterwards. Do you have anyone that can go to do a venue tour on your behalf in-person? That was also very helpful for us!

I second this. I was obsessed with a venue for a couple years until I finally toured it and it was horrible. Dog barking on another property the whole time, the reception area was falling apart and the staff was not welcoming. Maybe someone you know in the area can check it out for you?

I completely agree with Hannah! We were planning an out of town wedding as well and I was about 95% sure I knew which venue we were going to go with. When we finally made the trip and toured the venue it was horrible! All of the pictures looked amazing, but what the pictures didn't show is that the bride gets ready in a public restroom, the groom in a conference room with open windows, the ceremony space had a golf course behind it so you could hear golfers talking the whole time and there was a restaurant attached to the reception hall so they got to watch the entire ceremony and reception. I know it's hard to get there to tour, but if you don't you may end up with some not so pleasant surprises you can't see in pictures. You have to be willing to accept everything about the venue if you don't tour it and pictures and online tours aren't going to show the negative.

All of our contracts were emailed. We printed them, signed them, scanned them, and emailed them back. With technology no one ever needs to do things in person

Signing the contract electronically can be an option, it all depends on the venue. We signed our contract electronically so we didn't have to go into the actually venue.

Do you have someone local to the venue that would be able to tour the venue for you? My mom went to see the venue, take some photos, and ask my questions to the coordinator. She was able to share first-hand experience with me, which made me feel comfortable moving forward. I’m not sure how comfortable I personally would be planning a wedding at a venue that I, or someone I trusted, had not seen in person.

Hi Charlotte Smiley smile Did you and your FS end up booking the venue without viewing? What did you decide to do?
