Concert themed wedding?

megdalena, on July 1, 2009 at 11:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 28

All things Wedding seem to be geared toward the uber girly girl bride. Forget that groom! He's done his part with the asking, now it's time for the brides part with the planning. And it's all frilly and girly and pretty. It makes me sick!

My point is I've been having a hard time finding ANYTHING that fits our style. I finally found the perfect invitations. Custom concert tickets! (Sweet!) And since we are having our reception on a separate day we have to send invites for that too and we decided to stick with the concert theme and make some Concert Poster style invites. And since the invitations are the gateway to the event I was wondering if we should bleed the theme over into other aspects of the wedding?? Like the cake, decorations, gown(?), tux, favors etc... What ways can I do that so it's not overwhelming or tacky? What ways can I do it so it's not expensive? Maybe some DIY stuff? Any suggestions?

Lighting would be a major help. Having a stage set up for the ceremony and if you can afford it a live band. You could decorate with record covers and name the tables after your fave bands.

Is this what you are looking for?

    I have more. LOL

Ok, so this might not work but get a stamp made and stamp everyones hand like they do at concerts as they come it, Have a program "guy" like they do at concerts for your ceremony programs, if you have a fav cherity you could have a $1 rose basket where the money goes to cherity but guys can buy their girls roses and you can find bulk roses cheap all over the web, Let me think on it some more and im sure I will think of other stuff.

Are you doing programs? you could make them look like backstage passes and put them in lanyards.

You could also decorate your cake with music notes (like this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3082/2768830259_da3a4a1e14.jpg?v=0)

and make it look kinda funky by having bright colors and different shapes of the layers (like this http://www.simplycakes.co.uk/images/weddings/CakeImage_funky.jpg)

I agree that lighting would play a big role in really bringing out the concert feel.

Just try and think of the things you always see at a concert and figure out how you could incorporate them into a wedding.

A few more things I was thinking was:

Create your own movie poster/CD cover kind of thing to hang up at the entrance to the ceremony/reception

    Music stand heads as centerpieces

Send the invites in cd cases with a personal cd cover image

    Music note/theme favors

This might be expensive but you would love it, get all the guests to sign a guitar or cymbal head instead of a guest book

I will see if I think of more.

OH! you can make your favor a CD with your wedding music or favorite songs. Make the album cover a pic of you and your FH like you're in a band and think of a band name and stuff, that would be super cute.

I wanted to do that Amanda! I even had the cover art which was a painting by my 2 year old daughter that I edited on the computer. It would be cool, but my FH thought it would be a useless gift. Most of our friends that would listen to our favorite songs probably wouldn't listen to the cd we made because they'd already own all the music. And most of our guests probably wouldn't listen to the cd all the way through at all. We want to give them something they can use... I was thinking some kind of food, cuz how can you go wrong with food? Maybe I can find some niftie guitar shaped chocolates? Or some kind of music themed snack. I dunno. *shrug*

Thanks for the link to offbeatbride.com, Albert & Susie. That website is awesome!

I think you are right about lighting. We're going to have to figure something out. I'm going to have to research some DJ's.

Meg here is a far fetched idea, instead of the cd you can make cookies that are round and paint them like a cd or a record, for the stamp on the hand which is a "great" idea, get a stamp made with your names or your wedding date on it. An expensive but cute idea would be your picture on t-shirts on display like how they sell t-shirts at a concert, it could also serve as favors. Again like I said off the wall ideas. lol

Love the t-shirt idea. They have this machine i have seen on tv before where you can make your own screens and paint your own t-shits. If you have a design you like you might be able to get that machine cheaper then the faces, but in general that is a cool idea.

Thanks for the great ideas, MySheriAmor! I will have to tell my FH about the cookie idea! I'm excited about that (I love cookies) *grin*

CelticChick, if you remember the name of the machine let me know. I'm going to browse around the net and see if I can find it. The T-shirt idea is great, but the cheaper the better....

Okay, so the stamps lettering didn't show in the link I posted so I'll upload it to my Inspiration Board if you want to see what the stamp will look like. Smiley laugh I really hope my FH likes this idea! The stamp isn't even expensive!

We have a couple of green band scene backdrops or can create a couple custom scenes where people can choose their favorite band and they can be in the photo with them. We have great props, i.e. real guitars, drum sticks, mics, wigs, and other instruments that people would want as props. All of these photos can be printed for your guests and taken home and your guests can make a crazy concert themed scrapbook/guestbook for you.

I don't know the machine you're talking about but I make t-shirts alot. All I do is buy these sheets from michaels that I print my design out on and then use an iron to trasfer them on to the t-shirt. It's really easy, just make sure you flip the design. I mess that up sometimes. lol

Found it. It might be a bit expensive.

    http://crafts-sewing.hsn.com/yudu-screen-printing-machine-with-inks-and-screens_p-5382949_xp.aspx?webm_id=0&web_id=5382949&sf=ct&dept=ct0001&ocm=CT|ct0001&prev=hp!sf!dept&ccm=CT|ct0001

    $280 machine

    $40 extra color inks

    $120 on e-bay for 100 shirts

    total = about $440

thats $4.40 per shirt and you can use the machine later for other stuff.

    Think it over.

    Hi again, Megdalena,

The concert theme sounds awesome! It would be absolutely appropriate and fun to carry the theme throughout your wedding reception. It may sound a bit funny but a wonderful and inexpensive place to find great party decorations, banners, favors and ideas in general is the Oriental Trading Company. http://www.orientaltrading.com/

Of course, the idea of a stage and a live band definitely meets with our approval! ;o)

.... and don't forget the music for your ceremony!

    Best wishes,

Have you considered balloon decor? It's a great way to bring in a theme and is budget friendly. Check out the links below for some ideas. (BTW this is not my work) If you are interested, I can help you find a balloon artist in your area.

CelticChick, I really REALLY like that screen printing machine. I found it on ebay for as cheap as 50 bucks at no bids. It seems to go for close to that price, though. But I can probably get additional inks. It's really tempting, but I doubt FH would go for it. Although... I have been *trying* hard in the past year for some cheap way to get into screen printing. So I might be able to use that as additional sales point... but yeah, I still doubt he'd go for it. I really like the t-shirt idea, though.

I was just looking for placecard holders on eBay and found these music note ones. I thought of your post.. not sure they would exactly go with your theme, but you can check them out!
