Combined shower & wedding gift thank you?

barbiecake88, on August 22, 2016 at 10:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

Hello team! My name is Jill, and I am getting married to my lovely FH in December. I've lurked a while, and here is my first question...

My future in-laws hosted me an early shower last weekend (lots of things coming up so it made sense). I had two of my FH's aunts get us extra big gifts and stipulated in person that they were for the shower AND the wedding. Basically, it seems like they wanted to go ahead and get me both gifts while they had the pick of the registry. I'm not complaining! But I am not sure how to handle the thank yous. I understand the etiquette is to send thank yous within 2 weeks for any gift you get before the wedding, and the shower gifts should be separate. But what if THEY gave me everything all together?

I think I'd send a thank you note now thanking them for coming to the bridal shower and for the gift then send another after the wedding saying something like "thank you so much for coming to celebrate with us and again, thank you so much for [whatever they gave you]" just to acknowledge that you know if was for the shower and the wedding

Thanks so much for your input! @S&P, your idea is a great solution! I will plan to do just that. These etiquette things can be so challenging! Initially I was google searching/WW forum searching answers to my question, and I kept coming across the more popular question of "can I send combined shower and wedding thank yous if my shower is very close to my wedding date?" Of course that's a no!
