Colombian Wedding Traditions - Need Help!

Kristine, on June 26, 2014 at 1:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

So I'm marrying a wonderful Colombian man. I really want to incorporate some traditions into our wedding day, , but when I ask his family for suggestions they can't think of any. Does anyone know of any wedding traditions that we can incorporate?? So far, FH is giving the groomsmen sombrero vueltiados as their gift.

As always, thoughts and comments greatly appreciated!

I'm Colombian there is not a specific tradition when it comes to Colombian weddings except for the food. If you don't have a set up menu with your venue and you can incorporate some Colombian food and your FH agrees. I'm sure his family will appreciate it.

A Colombian wedding I will be attending soon is going to have an "hora loca". Basically, shots are served, costumes are worn, and everyone dances like crazy.

I would serve Aguardiente during the cocktail hour. I've been surprised at how many American liquor stores carry it. http://thelatinkitchen.com/article/first-sip-aguardiente-colombia

Another option would be to serve ajiaco (a hearty soup), or play Colombian music. Popular Colombian artists include Shakira, Juanes, and Carlos Vives.
