Cocktail Ideas/recommendations

Maria, on June 7, 2021 at 6:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

I am having a Gothic themed wedding next year near Halloween and am trying to get ideas for spooky drinks. Is there anyone who can recommend drink ideas? Black, red, dark colors? Maybe using dry ice or similar for a foggy look? Something sweet? I was thinking vampire, witch, monster inspired etc.

Charcoal (some sort of edible version) is popular for black beverages! There’s a coffee place that does a latte with this.

Charcoal is not intended to be ingested even though it is trendy as a food/beverage additive. It will cause more harm than good just to have aesthetics.

There are countless red drinks. Check Pinterest and and TipsyBartender for ideas but test them out first and make sure that they appeal to your guests. If your crowd doesn’t drink vodka, don’t serve martinis only, as an example.

I’d look at Pinterest for inspiration ideas. Do you have any friends that are servers or bartenders that you can pick their brain?

It’s not just normal charcoal, it’s a good grade ingredient you can find in health food stores or Whole Foods.

I do, but unsure whether they would know, but it never hurts to ask!

Bartenders use dry ice for foggy drinks but you have to be extremely careful that no one drinks it. So it would be best used as decoration only in a cauldron.

Crown Apple and Cranberry Juice-it tastes like a jolly rancher and is red. Mix 1:1 and pour over ice. Add a slice of lime if wanted

We had a Halloween pop-up bar in my town that had two really good fall/Halloween themed drinks! (Really they had a lot of them, these were just FH and I's favorites)

1st one was called Monster Squad and they served it in a cauldron, so you could easily prepare large batches for a signature drink.

-6oz Applejack Whiskey, 1 oz Allspice Dram, 16 dashes of Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas Bitters, 8oz Apple Cider, 2oz Lemon Juice, 12oz Lemon Beer, garnish with nutmeg and cinnamon. They included a couple pieces of dry ice in this drink, but it was in a cauldron that served 2-4 people. If you're doing single serve glasses for a wedding I would skip the dry ice.

The 2nd was called the VVitch:

-2oz Applejack Whiskey, 2oz Apple Sage Cinnamon Shrub (something the bar made themselves and I can list out how to make it too if you want), top with soda, add ice and then garnished with a sage leaf and apple wedge.

Key is the Apothic Dark wine that basically looks black. We found it at Total Wine.

Blavod vodka is pitch black and could be served as mixed drinks, shots, etc.

Adding dry ice to cocktails will make them "smoke" and stay cold

I know nothing about food grade charcoal, but does it do the same thing as like the charcoal drinks that they give people in the ER after overdoses? Because charcoal can make medications not work properly and may not be best to use unless there's like a warning sign.
