Church Wedding Decor

Sarah, on January 2, 2021 at 9:07 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15
Does anyone have any pictures or ideas for making a small town church venue a little nicer for the ceremony? We are having the reception at a separate venue. Not sure what I can do to dress it up a little and not have it so plain and or cluttered. Any advice is welcome!! 😊

Of course there’s always the obvious option of flowers. If you want to save money, you can use the same flowers for your ceremony and reception spaces. And never underestimate the huge impact of dimmed lights and lots of candles! It can make any space feel romantic 💕

I forgot the decorations for the church so all we had was flowers at the alter. And honestly it was fine. Yes the ceremony is the most important part, but it’s such a small portion of the day I wouldn’t/didn’t want to spend a lot of time of energetic decorating this space. My church orders new arrangements each week for the alter, so i just requested a certain color and there was nothing to Interfere so I go blue arrangements. I didn’t get to pick them though. If I did I was going to have to pay for them. As Chrysta said reusing the flowers would be a great idea. Just check with your church because I know some churches require you to keep them at the church, you can not take them with you.

**But I was going to drape the pews with tulle and hydrangeas. They make pew clips and the bought a bolt of tulle from one of those table cloth website, I can’t remember which one, and hydrangeas from the grocery store were just $5 a stem.

Do you have any pictures of the inside of the church? Depending on what it already looks like it may not need much at all Smiley smile

Here’s a picture of the church from a few weeks ago. The sanctuary is really quite pretty and the ceiling is wood. There aren’t any pews but chairs!

So, I might look into some kind of draping to cover the drum kit/choir loft/band area - maybe stick something all the way across the front there? Are those boxes gone (I assume they are)? Are you intending to stand in front of or behind the pulpit? If you stand in front, you actually won't need a whole lot more - maybe a few flowers - if you're standing on the platform/behind the pulpit, you may want something a little bigger in front of it - but as Cassidy said, check with your church about their rules. Also (as Chrysta noted) dimming the lights will help (and not using the uplighting near the baptismal).

Very pretty! Maybe make use of the uplighting they have.
There could be a way to attach draping or flowers on the chairs if you were interested in that. I can’t tell what the chairs look like.
You could also do vases lined down the isle with flowers or candles.

Haha and I love the uplights. I think she should keep them!

I am hoping that some of the clutter in the back could be moved or cleared out for the ceremony! Our budget is kind of tight and I’m worried draping would be an extra un-needed expense

I love the up lights too! I would probably dim them and have them be a soft white color instead

I just thought the uplights on the baptismal might be distracting lol. If the chairs and whatnot up there were moved out, it would have the same effect as draping and wouldn't cost you anything (with the possible exception of the time to move it, if they aren't willing). Honestly, I expect that if you can move or disguise the items behind the pulpit, that you're in a pretty good situation as far as not needing a lot in the way of decor. Talk to the church about using their flowers (and if they aren't the "right" flowers (or even color) - so what? We got married outside, and the venue had a large cross they set up behind our officiant (Episcopal priest) and we did very little else - colorful fans on the chairs (it was July lol) and a sign saying "Choose a seat, not a side, you're loved by both the groom and bride."

I think it's because of the chairs and stuff that I'm not loving them lol.

That doesn't look too bad. If the charis and music equipment can't be moved I would add draps. Hopefully you can move the boxes as well. If the church allows, maybe add an arch with some flowers and decor.

I'm also having my ceremony at a church and still need to talk to them about what flowers and decorations are allowed.

I would go into dollar tree and see what cute items you can find there such as the tea light candles or even see what Walmart/ hobby lobby has too.

Look at Pinterest for inspiration. Have you talked to the church to see if there’s any restrictions?
