Christmas wedding playlist

Elizabeth, on August 13, 2015 at 6:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I might have posted this the other day when I was first thinking about it, but I don't know how to find my old posts, so I'm posting (possibly) again.

So Christmas is a very special time between me and my Fi and we are getting married at Christmastime. I plan to do Christmas decor, such as holly, mistletoe, wreaths, etc. Would it be inappropriate to do a playlist made almost entirely of Christmas music?

Hi there! We will be having a Christmas theme as well. We thought about that but we didn't want it to be overkill. Christmas music is everywhere that time of year. We decided to have a local chorus sing acapella Christmas carols while guests are being seated and our last dance will be have yourself a merry little Christmas by Sinatra. Have fun planning.

I looove Christmas music and I might enjoy 5 hours of it, but I know most other people would not. I would limit Christmas music at a wedding reception.. Jennifer's plan sounds good.

Jennifer, I like your idea of a chorus singing carols while guests are seated. I also like Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas playing for the last dance. What a cute idea! Maybe we'll consider something like that. Thanks!

Your DJ can scatter a few throughout the evening.

I think its best to sprinkle throughout the evening. Even holiday parties with a DJ don't play Christmas music all night. A few well chosen Christmas carols will be much more meaningful than overload throughout the night.

PLEASE DON'T-- you can't dance to Christmas music!! If you want to play Christmas tunes during dinner I think that would be fine, but especially since you're getting married around the holidays, most people are so sick of hearing Christmas music in stores since Thanksgiving, I think you will get a lot of eye rolls and requests for other songs if you insist on playing Christmas music.

You might also want to keep in mind that if you have guests who don't celebrate Christmas, they'll probably be *really* sick of hearing Christmas music everywhere by then.

What about songs that aren't exactly Christmas, but more subtle? I had a December wedding (loooooove!!!!), and I played music from Love Actually (plus plenty of other songs). Most people would recognize the songs and enjoyed the lovey/holiday moment, but it wasn't in their face. That's one of my favorite holiday movies! Do you have any soundtracks or movies you love around the holidays?

My dj actually has a list of Christmas cocktail hour songs. Maybe you can play some Christmas songs during cocktail hour and then have the very last song at the reception be one too?

Wow, thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. I love this place.

@Butterfly I LOVE it. With a few changes (have to include O Holy Night and a few others), I will request this list to my DJ for cocktail hour and/or while people are being seated.

@CatsBoninCats we're neighbors. Mountain resort wedding in northern New England (NH or VT, have to pick between two venues).

@KD we're having a mountain resort wedding too. What region of the country are you having your wedding?

I want to go to a Christmas wedding!!

But yeah, don't over kill it. Christmas tunes during dinner or seating, but not the whole night. I'm sick of Christmas music by the first week of December because it's everywhere.
