Are you putting it on your registry? Why or why not?

My gran told me, if you register for china or glasses, make sure that they are plain. That way, if one breaks, you can replace it easily.

We did register for a dinner set (4 plates, 4 sideplates, 4 bowls) because our current set is in dire need of an upgrade. And we went for a plain set, like granny suggested.

No. I think it's stupid. Who wants fancy dishes they are afraid to use because they are expensive and break easily. They also have to be washed by hand. Its a waste of money. Nobody will care if you have a dinner party and use plain white plates. This is an outdated item.

No we aren't. My mom has my great grandparents china so I will get that some day. Most family holidays are either at my parents for FSIL. Also FH's family is so big we would need a place setting of at least 24 to be able to use. (they actually use paper plates for everything)

Oh sorry, I am so uncultured. In South Africa we colloquially call all dinner plates "china". No, we didn't register for proper china, but I do have a set handed down from my grandmother. It has been in a box for 3 years.

Nope! We had a set handed down to us from his mom when she passed. It's honestly a pain... we never use it, and I'm not a fan of displaying china in a cabinet, so it just sits collecting dust in the closet.

We did not register for China, but we will also probably inherit FH's family china at some point. Instead we registered for nice dinner wear sets from Crate and Barrel. I'd rather have something I can use everyday but still looks nice enough for special occasions.

Had I registered, I definitely wouldn't have added China. I think it's useless unless you're the kind of couple that will throw formal dinner parties. If we have people over, they'll be eating from our white Corelle dishes.

The real question is do you actually see yourself using it? Cuz I don't see myself using it so we didn't register for any.

@OP- Seeing your comment, I understand you are just asking about dishes in general? I think a lot of people register for those!

Yes but just pieces that go with the set I inherited from my grandmother. I will use the set someday on special occasions. I registered on Amazon, so I was able to pick and choose whatever I wanted and I don't need another pot or pan.

Nope! I can't imagine having the occasion to use it.

We did... because the lady at BBB gave FH the registry gun. He was like a kid in a candy store and I tried to stop him

No... I don't host formal dinners so I don't need that. I did however register for regular China.

We did sort of a compromise, registering for nice, white bone dinnerware that's dishwasher safe and suitable for daily use. (Neveah White by Fitz & Floyd from Bed Bath & Beyond)

Nope. My parents and aunts and uncles all said they registered because it was expected. They all received the China as wedding gifts but they have almost never used it and it sits in storage for 99.99% of the time. My parents used theirs once or twice since they were married almost 35 years ago. Unless you plan to host formal, fancy parties on the regular I would skip it. We did. Opt for something more functional and practical for everyday use. Maybe an equally practical but slightly fancier looking dinnerware set for parties if you're into that, but China is really more for formal affairs with a bunch of forks and spoons and linens and all that fancy stuff which happens less and less these days.

I didn't, and I really didn't want any. But my mom ended up giving me hers that was her great great grandma's, so... It's not replaceable, its more about the sentimental value for her, but i'm literally just going to box it up and never use it :/

We registered for the Bennett collection at Crate and Barrel. It's bone china, but also dishwasher safe so we're planning to use those as everyday dishes. It's plain white, so I'm hoping we can add colorful serving pieces as FH and I travel. I have my grandmother's china so I didn't want another formal set

I kinda did. The plates I had prior to getting married which we still use for every day meals are Corelle which are super functional but not particularly attractive, so we did register for a nicer set of plates and a few matching serving dishes. We didn't go fully formal because we didn't want to be scared to ever use them, but we wanted to have something a little special for occasions. We got a pretty white and silver-ish set that are nice looking, but we wouldn't freak out about if they get damaged or break.
