China Dress Success anyone?

Brandie, on August 18, 2015 at 6:18 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 26

I want to see your dresses bought from china. Milanoo, tbdress, jjhouse etc.

I have seen about an equal amount of good and bad dresses online. I want to see/hear some personally please.

Yes I am aware that there are other topics like this in the forum. I cant find one that is recent. Otherwise I would be there looking.

Thanks and congrats to everyone Smiley smile

In the 6 years I've been on this forum, I've seen fewer than 5 people happy with Chinese dresses. Those that don't like the dresses they receive don't really receive a refund, no matter what the site says, because the cost of sending the dress back tends to be almost equal to the purchase price. I really wouldn't consider one unless you are willing just to lose the money.

I'm having a custom made dress by Ieiebridal, they're from USA though. I'll post up reviews and photos when it gets here (in a few more weeks!)

My bridesmaids dresses and flower girl dresses were both made by Chinese sellers, but I bought them through reputable companies (Amazon and Easy respectively) as a way to protect myself. I also bought them wayyyyyy early on in advance in case something happened (way too many horror stories). I was not brave enough to buy my own dress through a China seller though. The money I'd be saving didn't seem worth it for all the sleep I figured I'd lose.

I agree with what 2d Bride said.my FMIL is aid it would be exactly the same for a fraction of the price. First the dress didn't even fit right and the material was cheap. She really couldn't get a refund because of the cost to ship it back. Luckily she sold it to s bride that loved it.

I am looking at a seller off ebay. This person or company address is NC. Its not china. However I was just curious about other places.

I was wondering if chinese dresses are so bad why they have them on ebay, Are the ones on ebay better?

I find it quite offensive when people say "China dresses".

I had a worse experience with an american seller than China. I ordered BM dresses from a Chinese etsy seller (no longer selling unfortunately) and I ordered my dress from China from

www.lightinthebox.com and had an amazing experience. I ordered custom measurements and everything was as pictured. If you order out of country, be prepared to pay some duty fees.

Moral of the story: the country of origin DOES NOT MATTER. Check into the specific seller you are buying from.

One thing I found out after my dress came in LATE is that even designer dresses (that one might assume are made in the U.S.) are made in China. My dress was delayed because of the Chinese New Year and the dress seller and manufacturer were not forthright in telling me about it until I persisted with questions as to why my dress was late.

Many brides on WW have expressed concerns about dresses made in China -- sometimes workmanship, sometimes sizing issues. A few have ordered reception dresses from the knockoff sites and had no issues. Others have had nightmares.

It's a risk. If you want to do it, make it a calculated risk but know that you may end up with a problem.

    Good luck.

I agree with Rosemary's advice. I did a lot of homework before I ordered. I realize that I also ordered my Chinese dress from China (lol) and the photo is below. I didn't actually need alterations on mine, and overall I think it's fairly common to need hemming. Even if you go to David's Bridal you'll probably have to get your dress hemmed (unless you're 6 feet tall).

So basically I managed to order: my wedding dress, my chinese dress and 3 BM dresses from China with success. I ordered one dress from the USA and had to return it because it was so awful.

We got the bridesmaid dresses from http://www.idreamprom.com/. One of my bridesmaid had previously ordered a mother of the groom dress from there and she said it was perfect. So we ordered all 6 dresses and matching shawls from them. I will tell you I think I held my breath until I received them and let out a big exhale when I saw how well made they were. What also helped is that they had pictures on the website of actual weddings that people had sent in. The dresses were only $79.00 and over a $200.00 order shipping is free

I am very interested in this topic! I hope more girls post... I was originally looking at ordering from China (@LadyMonk - country of origin did not matter to me but most did seem to be located in China for the ones that were priced right) but I have heard horror stories. I want to get a cheap one to do a "trash the dress" shoot where FH and I get all up in the Caribbean water in our outfits... I did buy a white long lace dress for something like $20 on Amazon. It's really nice but material does kinda look cheap. Hoping it doesn't translate in photographs if I use it for that shoot.

ETA - @LadyMonk - your dress is looks stunning!

I didnt mean to offend anyone. It is a dress and it is from China. There for it is a chinese dress or China dress because I was too lazy to type chinese at that moment. I have read many reviews over the past few days. I just wanted to get some insight from people who have bought them recently

I would say there are at lease 50% wedding dresses in US market made in China. But buy a dress online from China is not a good idea. The size is so different between Chinese and American, to have the dress in right size, you'd better have a professional measurement. Because of the communication and the long distance, once the dress is done, it would not easy to return. Your best choice is go to a local store and buy dress there, no matter where is store get the dress.

I purchased a high-low dress on a Chinese site that was short in the front and long in the back so hemming wasn't an issue. It also had a halter corset so I didn't have to take it in or anything. These details made me feel more comfortable about buying. My dress looked great. I didn't have to alter a thing! My dress was $200 including shipping so I say go for it if you have a tight budget.

    Tips:

    1. pick a dress that is easily altered like a high-low or a short dress.

    2. Don't submit your own measurements for them to alter. Buy the dress and get it tailored locally.

    3. Order in plenty of time so you can return if necessary.

I got a BM dress for a wedding in October off of JJ's House. It looks like it was advertised and fits well.

I know this was 2 years ago, but I know people will still be looking at this thread.

I just got my dress today from ViViDress online and I am so impressed (and relieved) by the quality and just how gorgeous it is! It fits like a glove. The lace is definitely NOT the same lace from the picture, and before I ordered it I asked someone on the websites livechat about how accurately it would match the lace in the picture and they told me "we have the same lace" which was a blatant lie, but it's okay because I love the lace that I got. I got custom measurements and it is perfect.

Here’s my experience. Couldn’t be more happy. It’s from DHgate. I asked to custom make 2 meter train dress and I’m so happy. Especially with price I paid which is under $300. It’s all about finding the right seller. The name of my seller on DHgate was “ click me” yes that’s the name in case anybody needs it. I gambled and I can’t believe the quality so definitely a yes to China dresses. Just do your research before you buy and make sure you explain in plain language what you want to get. Hope it helps some brides
