Cheesecake at the Wedding...Yes/No?

Renee, on November 30, 2012 at 5:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So, my fiance is NOT a fan of cake. Really doesn't like it and many have suggested to just do a groom's cake. I know the groom's cake is the one that you don't cut, so he and I thought about having a cheesecake at our wedding, but it's a year and a half away, so we wanted to get ideas to save money and still have people want it. It will be a summer wedding, but we are finding places that have inside areas, etc. PLEASE HELP! I think brownies are too...I don't know...tacky? But maybe I'm wrong; we just need an idea and we like both!

I would love a cheesecake wedding cake. Honestly, it's totally up to you what kind of cake you serve.

How about cupcakes? They are normally $2-3 per cupcake ( at least in my neck of the woods in RI) vs. a slice of cake at $6-7 per person.

Another idea is the old tried but true method of a fake cardboard cake covered in rolled fondant, decorated, but what's actually served is a large sheet cake from somewhere in the back with the same decorations.

Just some ideas. Does he like ice cream? Forego a cake and do a make-it-yourself-sundae bar! That could be a hit.

I second Amy V's ABSOLUTELY. I would go for a variety of flavored cheese cakes. : )

Listen, as long as you feed me dessert of some kind (preferably not the cop-out "here's an apple" variety), I'll be happy.

Sure, why not? That was one of our options if the cake wasn't part of the package.

I think cheesecake would be fabulous. Bakeries can make cheesecake that looks like a "cake" cake, so decoration-wise, it can still look fabulous. Although it cannot sit out as long, especially if the weather is warm.

Hey all, thanks so much for all the responses. My fiance and I looked at these responses together and have been thinking more and more about cheesecake and/or the sundae bar idea- c'mon, it's summer! Anyways, I really appreciate all the help so far! I will definitely be updating on here as far as what we decide and I am welcome to many more ideas as well!

Cheesecake is a great idea. We recently attended a wedding in SF at the Ritz where they had a dessert bar and the sundaes were a huge hit!
