If your looking in Connecticut, I hate to say, but good luck. If you find somebody let me know. I've been looking hard for something like that, but can't find a thing. I'm probably going to do my wedding and reception in a park in a pavilion or something like that.

At this point, we're looking at a guest list of 150 ish. I haven't worked much on it yet because 1. I have lots of time and 2. I want to know what I can get and how much space I'd have. As for budget... I don't want to go anywhere near the $10K my mother spent on my sister's wedding. I could probably afford it, but I don't want to go there.

I looked into some of the vineyards in the area, some of the farms... they want you to use their caterer, and pay upwards of $3k. I know that's probably not much compared to other areas, but we want bbq for dinner. No place you rent like that serves bbq.

They don't have that any more. "Rustic" because a trend, and now it's more expensive than more traditional venues.

I know it seems crazy that it's more expensive then venues that do all of the work and planning for you! what park pavilions have you looked into? have you found any places that let you do your own cooking?

Good luck with that one. You're in one of the most expensive markets in the country and empty barns go for **** bucks without a single chair or carrot stick.

If you decide to look in NJ, gimme a shout.

Where in CT are you? if you are farther from NYC and closer to the MA/RI corner of the state. my venue is pretty reasonable in MA (Holliston Historical Society) and you bring everything in except tables and chairs.

Also have you looked at Old Sturbridge Village?

Try searching for local historical societies, they may have rentals similar to what you are looking for.

Since Surfergirl mentioned it...if you are willing to look into MA...you should check out Salem Cross Inn as well (they do their own catering though)...http://salemcrossinn.com/

They were probably the most affordable "rustic" venue I saw that would allow for parties over 80 guests. Many of the other places we checked out were very expensive rentals with high food/beverage minimums.....my dream venue was is Pomfret, CT though (http://www.tyronefarm.com/)...they were booking 2016 dates in Sept 2014 though...and they are more expensive to rent

On that note, Stephanie, don't go looking into the Mystic Seaport... They're just as expensive as any other place that's typically rented.

Mrs A... Ct is not cheap. The only reason my sister's wedding was low as it was is because Mom hosted in her backyard... only thing with that is that now you have to rent a tent, tables, chairs, and a dance floor. That's why I'm looking for pavilions that are already lit and have seating because I can eat the couple of bucks for the pavilion, I'm gonna choke on the price of catering, but I still might be able to pull this off cheap, but fun.

Check out the websites i posted there are tons of venues on there and some of them look smaller so they may not be as expensive as an established wedding venue
