Cheap Chinese wedding dress fail

Amanda, on July 18, 2014 at 6:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

IDK if I want to share photos, but I impulse bought a beautiful looking wedding dress off one of these cheap Chinese sites, and it doesn't even come close to fitting lol. I already have a dress I bought in person, so it's not a huge deal. The one I bought in person is simpler (I'm not one to blow the bank on a dress), so this one would have been the 'fantasy' dress. It's just crazy because I went exactly by the size chart on the website, and I'm a pretty cookie-cutter body type, but its just made for a way smaller, shorter girl and won't even zip. So I guess this is a warning for all the other brides out there ... I emailed the company, hopefully they will let me return it.

Here's the dress I was *supposed* to get - the top of the illusion neckline is practically on my chin tho. I feel like the girl in the photo would have to be four feet tall with 6" heels on to fit into what they sent me. Also the lace in the illusion neckline does not look like that, it's way uglier.

I had a similar experience, got 40% refund without shipping it back, return shipping to china is $$. best of luck. ive even considered cutting off the "sleeves" that are inside my armpits to try it strapless, but the overall fit its just, off. it was made for someone without curves and i sent them my exact measurements. i was told after that 5-10 cms different is normal, thats a HUGE difference.

Thx for sharing Andi - how many times did you have to email them to work it out?

I had to "escalate it" , i used AliExpress, but after about a week and me uploading photos showing measurements were wrong etc, they gave 40%. this photo shows the top of the sweetheart is above my collarbone, based on measuring. the armholes were 2 inches small. its just sitting in the package in my drawer at work, idk what to do with it i had such hopes too.

Yeah I have a feeling it will cost me more than I paid for the dress to have it altered because the alterations would have to be so many/drastic.

Not too bad, but it is made out of that cheap material that doesn't 'breathe'. Well I hope no other WW brides make the same mistake.

    Its a shame it didn't fit...it's a beautiful dress.

I bought 2 cheap ($30-$40 each) from China on ebay for FH and I's announcement pics...one I sent my exact measurements, the other I just ordered a stock size (which was smaller than my exact measurements, but it was the biggest they had.

Fast forward a month and a half...both of them arrived on the same day. The one with my custom measurements looked like it was made for my 5 year old FG...

The one that I bought stock is below...Fits perfectly and like a glove.

I get a lot of consignments after "prom season" from ladies who purchased dresses from Ali or other similar Asian sellers. They are all junk. Sequins are glued on, seams are busting, nothing is even or proportioned. I wondered what was going on with the straps/necklines. The local schools say that all "strapless" dresses must have shoulder straps added - even if they are clear or spaghetti thin, they have to have a strap for "modesty". Well, this year a lot of the girls ordered one shoulder and keyhole dresses and when I got them after prom it was obvious there was some serious last second "alterations" done to many of them. I finally asked one girl why the straps of her dress was such a chop shop and she said many of her friends and herself ordered Asian dresses for like $30. The straps were so short and tight they were more likely cut for a child or a very Asian body type (narrow shoulders, small bust, thin arms.) Many of them had to cut the tops of their dresses off and remake straps out of the material to get them to fit.

My cousins' MIL is a seamstress and has worked on wedding dresses for years and years. She told me right off the bat, spend the money at a bridal shop and don't order online. You have not tried the dress on, and most of the knock off dresses are cheap quality and in 1 or 2 cases, FELL APART on her when she was trying to fix something.

My bridesmaid ordered her BM dress from China... it came in and we thought the quality was fine. Luckily she opted to go for a stock size rather than provide measurements.... it seems like that is the way to go; for some reason you give them measurements and crazy things happen!

We went ahead and ordered the other 3 girls' dresses too... because I was worried they wouldn't match if some got from Alfred Angelo and some didn't.... so hopefully they all turn out ok... fingers crossed..

Sorry this happened to you. Good luck on the return. I'm glad you have another dress so it's not a total disaster.

I'm sorry! At least you didn't lose a lot of money. We bought a $40 flower girl dress from China. I felt we didn't have anything to lose and since the dress I wanted was nearly $200 I thought why not.

I think we lucked out. It was a better quality than any dress here and even looked better than the original. Well worth the wait. It was beautiful, amazing quality, I couldn't be happier. Took almost three months to come in ... I bought of Etsy.

Have to say, I had a decent experience with ordering from china. my dream dress costed 1000+, almost 2k. way more than I wanted to pay. so I turned to ebay and bought one from china. below is a pic of what the dress looks like and what I actually received. not too different, except it lacked tulle on the bottom to make the mermaid part look fuller. that was easy, I took it to my alterations lady and she's working on that. I told her I wanted it as full as the inspiration pic.

I have seen some gorgeous dresses on those websites and I wanted to buy one but got scared because of all the horror stories. One of my friends bought hers from china and she loved it I guess some people get lucky.

I ordered my dress and it looked exactly like the picture and fit pretty good, needed a few alteration but nothing major. I then ordered my a veil and it was horrible looking. I ended up requested a refund

Which Chinese companies did you order from? I too found a "dream dress" on one of their sites and girlfriends convinced me to bite the bullet, take the chance and order the dress. I gave my measurements but now I'm wondering if I should change it to a size that best suits my measurements....? If that's possible. I used Bridelee. What companies did you guys use?
