Charger plates for buffet dinner ? Yay or Nay

Team_Rayford, on November 6, 2013 at 8:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 17

We are having a buffet dinner for the reception. I'm trying to cut back on somethings that I really don't need. I ordered glass beaded charger plates . Could I do without the plates it will save $700 since it's not a plated meal. If so what do I do with the napkin on the table? Now only if I can find a way to save on renting these chairs that alone will save over $2,000.

I would definitely say lose the charger for that much money. you can probably find some other kind of placemat for a whole lot cheaper. i wanna say big lots has chargers for a $1 each...

You don't need charger plates at all. I'm not sure what it has to do with the napkins. Can't they just be in the center of the place setting (where the charger would be), or under the forks?

We went without charger plates too (we have some tables with 10 at a table and the charger plates made it too cluttered) and we ARE having a plated reception. The napkin can still be in the middle folded nicely or put in a class (we are putting ours by the menu/program). Kinda like in the picture below.

You don't need them. Here is our table for an idea of what to do with napkins --

We're wrapping the utensils in our personalized napkins with the wedding favor for each place setting. We are using heavy duty plastic "like dinnerware" plates on the buffet tables and the utensils are the matching "like flatware" heavy duty plastic

$700??!!! Ditch the chargers! I've seen napkins used to wrap utensils, folded prettily in glasses, underneath utensils, folded in shapes where the charger would go . . . don't even worry about it.

If you can find someone in the area who's selling the once-used chargers from their wedding you can usually get a good deal and not have to worry about renting or buying then shipping. I was lucky enough to find someone who lived less than an hour away who sold me hers for $0.75 each.

BUT you don't need them. I just happen to like the way they look and my colors are gold, eggplant and ivory and the chargers add that splash of gold that I need.

I'm printing little menus that match our color scheme to put on the plates, that way no need for chargers and it brings the color in more

Walmart has charger plates for christmas right now. I think they are 98 cents. Colors are sliver, gold or red.

But honestly, I never thought about using them. I really don't want to have a 100 of something I will never use again. The only thing that will be on the tables beside the centerpieces will be their placecard/favor. All the napkins, sliverware, plates and cups will be with the food.

That's amazing! Where did you see them for .98? I can't find them on the website. Hopefully I'll be able to sell the chargers after the wedding (fingers crossed).

I wouldn't bother with the chargers. As for the napkins, put them at each place setting, or in the glasses. Easy fix! Smiley smile Save the $700 and put it somewhere fun!

Try linen table cloths.com. they have chargers in all colors and are much more affordable than $700

I love the look of the chargers personally especially the beaded ones I am actually going to rent my linens from an etsy shop and she also rents the beaded chargers which may be a bit cheaper for you.

I don't know how many you are getting but she might give you a discount if they are bulk!

If you are in the NY/NJ area I can share my chair rental company with you they are renting me chivari chairs for only $4.95!!!! But not sure where the wedding is...Good luck :-)
