Chance a venue under construction?

Nina, on July 7, 2019 at 9:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
In my search for the perfect venue I’ve had a hard time finding one that I loved, until last week. Recently I came across a golf course that just announced a new venue it is going to build on its property, and the renderings of it look gorgeous and I love it (and the property itself is beautiful). The issue is that I’m worried about construction not being completed by the date that I’d like to reserve. I met with the event director and she assured us that the construction will be done by May 2020 and that their first wedding will be in July 2020. The date I’d like is September 2020. We asked about a Plan B if it isn’t done, and she said she is 1000% sure it will be (without really giving a concrete plan B). They have a clubhouse that they currently have weddings at but it holds 150 people and my wedding would be about 250. Has anyone had a similar scenario and how did it go?

Get her guarantee in writing! Maybe they can add a clause in the contract that if the venue is not as promised by May they will refund you or offer a comparable alternate venue.
September is a long way from May so hopefully if things don't go as planned you will have time to find another option.

    Hi there Nina!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

I would also recommend that if you do decide to go with this venue, you ensure you have a contract in place which stipulates that the venue will be complete by May 2020, and if not, what will happen for your wedding.

It’s important to protect yourselves in case construction gets delayed!

I agree with everyone about a contract with guarantee. My new husband belongs to a country club that is being rebuilt and we wanted to have a big party there when we came back from our destination wedding. They kept promising it would be ready. Long story short....permits were held up, contractor quiet, etc. and it’s still not finished and we got married in May. No firm date on when it will be ready. Luckily for us we had a beautiful beach wedding with a reception and can have our other party whenever but that’s definitely a risk. Good luck

Get that guarantee and their plan b in writing! If they can't get it done in time, it should not be your problem to solve, its theirs! I think with you date a few months off of the expected end date, you should be fine!! Smiley smile
