Champagne Dress: To tan or not to tan

Anne, on February 21, 2014 at 8:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

My wedding dress has a champagne-colored sheath with a lace overlay. My skin is not pale, but not particularly tan either in the winter. However, I tan well in the summer. Does anybody have any advice for whether or not to tan with a champagne-colored dress?

Girl, I love a tan, so I vote for tan. But be prepared, you've opened a can on here. People are going to PREACH that it's dangerous and unhealthy.

Champagne dresses are really forgiving, so as long as you're not super duper pale, you'll look great.

My dress is a peachy-champagne color, and I plan to just get my tan outdoors from the sun (like you, I tan easily in the summer). Another great thing about champagne dresses, though, is that if you decided to get a spray tan, if it rubbed off a little on your dress, it won't be really obvious.

I really think you're over thinking this. I also have the same type of dress/color, and I don't want to look like Snookie on my wedding day.

Definitely not going for Snookie...haha. Just a "healthy glow". And I'm outside a lot, so am mostly trying to figure out if I should wear spf 50 all summer long. Haha. Smiley smile Thanks for the advice!

I'm going to tan a little for the "healthy glow" like you said. My wedding is right in the beginning of summer so I won't have enough nice weather beforehand to get it the good old fashioned way lol. My dress is "Alabaster".

I tanned a little before the wedding. I didn't do too much though because H is fair skinned and I didn't want to look ridiculous standing next to him. Healthy glow like you said.

My dress was champagne, and I'm very fair-skinned (kinda see-through, actually). I didn't tan, because I didn't feel it was necessary with the dress. Instead, I used a bit of bronzer on my cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin so I wouldn't look washed out in photos.

Besides, skin cancer. Lesions. Melanoma. WRINKLES. (Somebody had to mention the health side of things.)

Sorry, JG Smiley smile It is unhealthy! Going out into the sun for your vitamin D is fine as long as you're using protection, but going to a bed or out for the express purpose of tanning? One of my BM was diagnosed with melanoma when she was 35. She's 38 now. She has had chunks of skin removed.

Embrace your natural skin and learn how to enhance it. We have way too much information at our disposal now to keep making these mistakes.

Thanks for all the advice! I know the health risks (I have a Master's in Immunology) and don't go to tanning beds. I spend a lot of time in the summers running, hiking, biking, swimming, playing with my dog, etc. I was asking purely for the sake of skin color versus dress color. I should have phrased the question differently. More like "Do I prevent the natural glow that happens in the summers with outdoorsy activities by lathering on the spf 50, or will the natural glow look good with a champagne colored dress?". Again, thanks for all the tips!!!

Even with spf 50 you should get SOME some through the whole summer. But maybe just lower the SPF to 25 or something?
