Ceremony Programs for Secular Wedding

HappilyEverConforti, on May 16, 2017 at 2:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

What is everyone's thoughts on a ceremony program for a non-religious wedding?

Not needed? Crucially needed? Take it or leave it?

Thanks in advance!!

Totally unnecessary for a non-religious ceremony.

I'm having a religious ceremony, but the only reason I'm having a program is because we are both theatre majors and our program is going to look like a Broadway playbill.

I'm having one because I'm sentimental and I've saved the ones from all the other weddings I've attended. Smiley smile

If our budget was going over, I'd cut it, but I'd like to include a list of our BP and some info on the reading/quotes we've included.

You can keep the program short and sweet if you just want something cute with your bridal party's names on them. I have done a few that feature the bridal party and at the top they just list the order of ceremony real short and sweet:

    1. Music Starts

    2. We Get Married

    3. Everyone Celebrates

Even secular ceremonies can have fun programs, if they want to Smiley smile

If you DO want programs, you can include titles of music and readings, introduce wedding party (names and relationship), thank guests for attending, thank parents, 'In Memorium" section, include directions to reception (if elsewhere).

Definitely not needed. The only reason I like them is because I like to see the names of the bridal party and how the bride/groom knows them. I think an alternate would be something like this:

I was leaning towards a chalkboard but FIL's were saying how they went to a wedding and they couldn't read any of it because the writing was too small. I got a template on Etsy for like $8 and printed it at home, pretty simple one

I don't think it's really needed but I might do one just to keep everyone in the loop. I might do one large sign that says the timeline or maybe put it on the fans since that is already one of my favors.

Not remotely necessary. We are definitely not doing them. I see zero reason for programs unless the ceremony is super long and boring to the point that people need something to read to hold their attention and they are counting down sections until the torture is over.

I just finished printing mine out! Our wedding is at a winery and we just included some info on that and a quick timeline. Plus an extra thank you in case I don't say it enough thru the night lol.

I had mine custom made on Etsy, after I sent the girl a mock-up I put together. She did all the stationary for our wedding, so it all coordinated. Not a necessity, but I'm sentimental and save them from weddings, so I loved doing it.

Not necessary. No one really cares who your bridal paris and the ceremony will be what it is. Generally, my couples haven't picked their readings when they have to go to print.

    Skip it.

I suppose the real questions for you are, "do I have extra money to spend and do I think this is cute enough to merit it?"

We're skipping, even though i'm a huge dork and always love reading them. just seemed like a waste of paper. we're using big antique mirrors around our venue to write down the names of the folks in the WP as well as the night's itinerary instead.
