Ceremony focal point ideas needed

Tatyana, on September 6, 2012 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi lovely ladies with brilliant ideas!

I'm looking for some kind of arch/arbor for our ceremony. Everything I find is for the outdoors and has plants/greenery in it. There's no way to use something like that in our indoor space since we can't put stakes into the floor and we're having a late fall/early winter formal event so I'd prefer something less outdoorsy looking. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

If that is your venue, it is AMAZING as is!

The mirror in the back is the focal point (well, besides you, the bride and groom)

And after everyone is seated/standing up in the front, you don't see much of what is on the floor near the altar anyways.

Marie, really pretty! Are they going behind you guys in that same arched shape? What are the tubes made of?

Hayley, thanks! I keep feeling like it's just an empty room and I need to fill it with lots of things.

@Taty... I know im probably not spelling it correctly but there are those "chuppah" things that look pretty nice.

@Marie where did you get those awesome vases?

Chuppahs are primarily for Jewish weddings. They have a certain significance.

Micheals sells a 7' arch that is prelit and stands up on its own. Its very pretty, and only $50. You just need flowers. Id try that if i were you.

Do you like how the top picture is? With the columns and the flowers on top?

You could do something like that and Bigger?

Or decorate the aisle with columns and flowers? How BIG do you want? LOL

Floor centerpieces can double as table centerpieces?

but in all honesty, the mirror behind you is enough, I wouldn't do a 2nd arch on top of that...

Below is what we used. Directions for making it can be found here.

And yes, ours was a chuppah. But if you just call it a canopy, it has no religious significance. ;-)

I would just go crazy with flower petals if it was my place. The altar is perfect as is.

    Thanks ladies!

We could technically use a chuppah. We're not incorporating any religion into our wedding but my mother's side of the family is Jewish so I don't think anyone would be offended.

Hayley, I love the column idea. I didn't notice them in my picture before so thanks for pointing them out. One of the reasons I've been trying to steer away from lots of flowers up front is because of the expense, but it's brilliant that we could reuse them as centerpieces. I'm excited to get a piece of your wisdom!

I'm going to e-mail our venue and see if they have any of these things sitting in their closet or if we need to come up with our own.

    Candles?

You could put candles on the columns too.

But don't forget, look at your 2nd picture. Once the room is full, you can't really see much more than the pretty mirrors. So maybe dress up the aisles. Or have Really TALL columns and decorations if it will be behind you.

I love the "Buy all the things" picture! Lol, that's totally been me during wedding planning!!

I can see why you think your venue looks a little empty in the pic with no people in it but, honestly, once people are in there, like in the 2nd pic, it doesn't look empty at all.

Our ceremony is indoor as well and the venue has an iron arch to stand under that can be decorated with candles or flowers. There are also a bunch of candles lining the aisle. Some on stands and some just on the ground. You could do something like that along your aisle and it will add a romantic feel.

Here's what I did for my ceremony. We did DIy projects for the giant topiaries out of coat racks and for the pomanders that lined the aisles.

Are those fireplaces under the 2 side mirrors?

I think with 3 mirrors & a chandelier, there is plenty going on. Remember, the mirrors will reflect what is in the room and make it look more crowded.

I think it is very nice as is. Maybe add an aisle runner.

Thanks for the wonderful ideas ladies!

Brooch Beautiful, how did you get the foam balls around the hooks - they must have been pretty big.

Hayley, I've been converted! Thank you for so many ideas!
