Ceremony Fee Rip Off?

Kristin, on June 7, 2012 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

One of the venues we are looking at has a $300 ceremony fee for the half hour ceremony. It incluces set up and breakdown of chairs (we will have 40-50 guests).

Is this crazy? I don't know must about wedding prices etc so input is greatly appreciated!

For my area, that is pretty cheap. I've been to some venues and for my 48 guests for set up and breakdown they want $750-1,000

Our ceremony fee is $200. I guess when you think about it being for only 1/2 an hour it can seem like a lot, but since they're doing all the set up and breakdown, I think it's worth it. For me, it's easier than having to travel to a different location for the ceremony and reception.

From what I have seen on here that seems pretty reasonable..It really depends on area and type of venue..we had ours at my old church so we only had to pay like 25 for cleanup I think and give a donation to the church.

That's not bad. I live in the northeast and it runs from $400 to $1500

Most places charge a ceremony fee so yes, it is common and no you are not being ripped off in regards to being charged. Smiley smile As to the amount, you're in Baltimore so it seems right to me(I was married in Philly).

    Low end of average.

We paid more than that for our church.

Love the new photo! Smiley smile

That doesn't seem to bad from what I saw when we were booking our wedding. It does seem crazy but I guess they can do it!

We are still considering the place because the reception rental is pretty good. It's $350 for the room and then $300 for linens. We are still deciding if we are going to do the linens or not. It may be cheaper to buy and bring them ourselves or forget them all together and decorate the tables in an alternative, cheaper way..

In my area, NY/NJ, it's usually 500.00 or more. You might be able to do a public park (without chairs) for less; permits are usually pretty inexpensive.

As for linens, I'd rent them; yes, you can buy them, but then you have to steam them, handle them and then sell them at the end. I'm not a fan of paper or plastic cloths because they don't cost THAT much less than cloth, and cloth looks so, so much better.

Our church is charging us $775.00 and that includes the minister and an organist.

$300 is a pretty good price.

Do either of you belong to a church, many churches do not charge, or charge a discounted rate. My church charges non-member $500.

I think so. A place I was looking at had a $800 fee. I have a planner who was willing to do the set up/break down and flip the room but the venue would not allow her to. It was kind of a uppity place and they said they would not allow her or anyone in the room durning the time, not even my planner, who is on my side and is there to make sure everything is set up to my liking would be allowed in the room. It was very strange and unprofessional how the woman was talking to my planner and us about "the rules". Anywho we deceided to go elsewhere. We are having a short ceremony, plus a friend is officating so I couldnt really justify with the price tag. Afew other places we looked at had a fee but it was closer to $250-300, which was more reasonable. Good Luck

I live in NY and we are paying $500. The one place I looked at was $800. So I would say that is a great price.

Sounds bought right to me, That is pretty close to how much we have to pay to use the front lawn. And i'm pretty sure we have to set up and tear down the chairs.
