Catholic Church ceremony

Lissett, on November 29, 2021 at 9:06 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 13
I just contacted a local parish in my interest to have my wedding ceremony. I have to wait for a call back and I’m nervous about whether the priest will believe me about having completed all my previous required sacraments for matrimony. I wonder if I have to redo everything and whether they will let me do it again without the long process of classes. At least some few meetings and wouldn’t take more than a year. The situation is that I no longer have the certificates of my baptism, 1st communion and catechism. the reason being that it was destroyed by someone, my mother past away so I don’t remember all the info of dates. There’s still a chance for baptism and 1st communion but I don’t know yet if the churches will still have record of it and the catechism will be absolutely no because idk.

Do you know which church you completed those sacraments in? They may have parish records and can get you new certificates. Worth a shot anyway.

Agree with the above comment! If you can figure out which church/parish you received those sacraments from, they will have certified copies. If you aren’t sure which parish, try calling the diocese for the area you lived in during that time, they can probably help you.

I was married in the Catholic Church last month and our pre-Cana was online and we could pace ourselves, took as long or as short as you could want. And then only one meeting with the priest and deacon.

You should be able to at least get your baptismal certificate if you can remember the church you were baptized at. That’s all I had. The back of my certificate was never updated with all my other sacraments.
We did pre Cana as well as meeting with a mentor couple. It took maybe 6 months for prep. But our meetings were very spread out.

I wasn't aware the church will marry someone who is already married. That's cool Smiley smile

Depending on where you are, the church you were baptized at will have all of the information for your sacraments, regardless of where you received the others. In the US, when you receive any additional sacraments beyond baptism, the church where you receive them is required to contact the church where you were baptized. A notation is then made on your baptismal certificate noting the additional sacrament. That's the reason many parishes in the US require a new copy of your baptismal certificate sent from your baptismal parish in order to marry; that church is considered your "parish of record" and it is easy to verify that you received all of your sacraments and that you were never married in the Catholic Church before. I am not sure how this is done in other countries, but I believe the process should be similar.

The only one I don’t know is my catechism. I called for my 1st communion and she told me the church where I was baptized will be able to give me one form with all info of completion. The other church phone lines are down. So I’m waiting on that.

That’s only if it’s not legally valid marriage. Like the marriage out of faith where priest does the ceremony without marriage liscense

The church will only do it if it was court marriage so you’re already set up legally married to the same person. Now I will be doing faith ceremony for marriage which is a sacrament in Catholic Church. Like I currently cannot do confessions because I have not married by God.

Thanks for the advice I just found this out too, to contact baptism church. Now I’m afraid that the catechism ceremony was not backed up to my baptism church. Their phone lines is down right now.

Thank you for the comment. Yes, my 1st communion church said the same thing so I’m waiting to get into contact for the baptism church. I’m hoping they recorded my catechism as well, just worried since it was done in different state and with a priest that was visiting from mexico.
