Hello Catholic friends! Which readings did you pick for your ceremony?

Did the church give you a list to chose from? If so, I suggest each of you read them on your own and mark which ones touch your heart. Then come together and see if any of them match up. Select the ones that have meaning to you as a couple.

No, I wish they did! Maybe I can ask them for suggestions. Which ones did you pick?

We also had the book to pick from - I think it has been around since like the 70s so you might want to ask your church about it. They might be waiting for your date to get closer. We honestly tried to pick ones that we weren't as familiar with (No Love is Patient, Love is Kind even though I love that one!) and that we liked.

    First Reading: Genesis 1:26-28, 31a

    Responsorial Pslam: Psalm 34:2-9

    Second Reading: 12:1-2, 9-18

    Gospel: John 2:1-11

We both sat down separately with our book we received from the church and picked out our 3 favorites from each reading section. We then compared. We had our favorites from the 3 we chose and 3 out of 4 we chose the same favorites. It was great. Then we reflected and talked about why we chose them and how they felt to us.

    First Reading: Tobit 8: 4b-8

    Pslam: Psalm 145: 8-9, 10 and 15, 17-18

    Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:8a

    Gospel: Mark 10:6-9

This is definitely something you want to get from your church as they have specific reading for the marriage rite. Then read through them and think about each reading and what it says. They are all very beautiful in the end and it is not an easy choice.

Not Catholic, but Episcopalian here Smiley smile We had a selection of a few to choose from, and ended up going with:

    Tobit 8: 4b-8

    1 Corinthians 13

    and Matthew 5: 1-10

I'm also Episcopalian (diet Catholic). Our cathedral gave us a list to choose from. We landed on Ruth 1: 16-17 (Your people will be my people) and 1 John 4: 17-21 (God is Love). We're still deciding on our Gospel with our priest as the liturgy is formed.
