Cathedral veil....hair up or down? I need advice asap....trial on Saturday!

lindsay, on January 4, 2015 at 1:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hello! I am in need of some help and advice for how to have my hair done for my trial this Saturday!

I have a cathedral veil I am wearing for the ceremony and my dress has tank top straps (see pictures).

The problem is that I love my hair..I have been growing it out for 5 years and love it when it is down and softly curled (see profile pic) However, I am not sure I am going to like it with the dress I chose because I don't want to completely cover the straps, as they have a lot of beautiful details on them.

Then I thought about having my hairstylist put my hair in a pretty, soft, loose updo for the reception so that way I can get 2 different looks. My only concern is how long it will take for her to put it up and I don't want my guests waiting too long or to lose out on photo opportunities because I am getting my hair done.

I need advice! Will my hair look pretty down with the veil even if it's covering the straps? Or should I just have my hair in an updo for the day? TIA!

I have long hair that I usually wear down, am wearing a cathedral veil, and will have my hair up. Hope that helps!

I would do it up, I had the same dilemma and my dress has the same straps as yours. I really want to showcase my dress and not have it covered by my hair. It was a long debate because I usually wear it down lol. I am doing a loose bun and pinning my cathedral veil right above it! This is my inspiration for hair.

@AprilBride I was thinking the same thing..I ALWAYS wear my hair down. Having it up might be a nice change so I look at least a little different on my wedding day Smiley smile

I think your hair could look really pretty down or half up/down even with the straps on your dress!

@annakay511 I was thinking half up half down as an option, too. Thanks for your feedback Smiley smile

I am wearing my hair up because I have a cathedral length veil. I honestly think they look a little bit odd when hair is down with those veils.

I would say up, my FCIL wore her hair down with a Cathedral veil and even though her grandma (a hairstylist) put the veil in very well, after walking down the aisle it was drooping because of the drag. Having it up may give it more hair mass to stick itself into.

Oh and FCIL had a dress with pretty straps and it looked nice with her hair down. Picture included.

I think a half up half down would suite you best.

Half up/half down if you really are set on loose curls if not, I think up looks best with cathedral veils

I did a low bun to hold my cathedral veil. My hair is waist-length so it wouldnt hold when down and up was too heavy, the low bun was perfect.

Here's my updo with a cathedral length veil. My hair is waist length and it really didn't take her long at all to do it, and my hair is pretty thin so she had to do a lot of teasing and basically put a giant mat of hair at the back of my scalp to make my veil hold lol. Hopefully the picture turns out ok from my phone!
