For some background information: FH and I are thinking of having a destination wedding and would only invite our closest friends and family, about 20 people. One of the venues I contacted requires the use of their own catering. I was quoted dinner at $80pp with a $1700 minimum for 20 guests, which does not include alcohol. Is this ridiculously high? I'm thinking it is pretty expensive, but since our guests would have to fly out for the destination wedding, it would be nice to treat them to an extremely nice dinner.

So, how much are you paying per person?

We are in a Chicago suburb and having the reception at a restaurant - $45/person. Two appetizers, signature cocktail during cocktail hour, unlimited beer and wine all night, 2 protein choices, mashed potatoes, veggies. And salad.

We will bring in a dessert bar.

$52 per person 4 course plated meal with appetizers and $30 per person for alcohol so $82 per person. this is in canada. I am having 150 guest which makes it very expensive but the food is amazing. I think thats high without alcohol but that depends on the pricing in the state you live in. They could be charging you more because you are having a smaller wedding.

Ours was quoted at $22.95/pp ($11.95 for kids ages 4-11) for a carved meat entree, second entree, 4 sides, dinner rolls with butter, iced tea OR lemonade (apparently not both?) our wedding cake and coffee. We are having ethnic appetizers from another place (have to look at costs for those) and this does not include any of our alcohol. Also this is a buffet, which is probably why the cost is less. But they do bring all of the China and flatware. (Alcohol is served through the venue and we have to use their glasses i imagine).

In Buffalo NY area we are at $48.35 a person (plus 18% service charge and then 8.75% tax) - around $63.00 ish. This includes the room, tables, chairs (although I am using two décor companies which will be doing chair covers and décor throughout the venue, which obviously isn't included in this price), white lienens, my choice color napkins, food, 5 hr open bar (plus upgraded to top shelf), 4 passed apps. We're also getting married in the venue in another room so that was $395 for the use of that room.

Food is $18pp, drinks (non-alcoholic) is $3pp. We're bringing our own alcohol and I'm not quite sure on the cost of that.

It's hard to break down for just catering. Our venue is all inclusive (full open bar, 2 option buffet, all linens/china, tables and staff) for $35 per person. That includes tip and setup/cleanup. We still plan on tipping well on top of that, but it's one of the few times I'm glad we live where we do.

Maybe price compare? I think that's pretty normal of a price but doesn't mean you can't find a deal you might like just as much!

We are paying $52 pp without alcohol. This includes the cake/dessert table, service, gratuity. We're having food stations.
