Casual wedding? ... Casual reception?

M.S.P.D, on May 16, 2012 at 5:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Hello Ladies!

Since our wedding is super casual do you think I could just do a super casual reception? Like a buffet somewhere? Pizza/ Pasta/ and Salad?

We are on a super tight budget but if we could just do a buffet restaurant I think we could make it work. Or is this too tacky?

Also, do you have any recommendations for buffet restaurants in San Diego?

Ours is going to be casual & also in San Diego at Santee Lake!!!

We're using surfbrothers.net for our caterer.. Look into them, $6 pp? Think we got a great deal. our wedding is at 2pm so we wanted something light but enough to fill them up without having to be a full dinner meal. I'm soo excited I cant wait. Its coming up fast!!

I think that you know your crowd better than anyone and you know what my friends and family would be super happy to just be together... forget the typical stereotype... try something new maybe start a new trend! Smiley smile

I would come to your pizza reception!

    Hi again!

We had our dream wedding - very small, intimate and romantic on a budget under $1,000!! Smiley smile

We picked our favourite restaurant and a couple of days before invited friends to come as they are to help us celebrate.

< As it was such a casual affair, everyone too expected to pick up their own bills >

Then we headed over to our neighbourhood bar, where the owner had kindly allowed us to put up a few decorations, bring a small cake & dance the night away!

Keeping it simple means less stress for everyone and more potential for fun & spontaneous memories!

Do you & your fiance have a favourite ( or memorable) restaurant or bar in the area of your wedding?

There are under 30 guests and honestly I don't think 99% of them will care. I am just worried that one of them might. lol

    And thank you ladies!

There is nothing tacky about having the wedding you can afford. Way to go for sticking to your budget and not going into debt. As long as people are fed they'll be happy, and honestly a casual pizza buffet sounds really fun. I think it's only tacky when people skimp on things that would make their guests have a nice time (like not feeding them at all) and then spend a ton on non-necessities like flowers.

    Etiquette says:

    1. If you have guests, you have to serve them something (although it can be as little as cake and punch), and

    2. Whatever you serve, you should pay for (no telling all the guests to show up at a restaurant and pay for their own food and drink).

That's all the requirements there are. So if a buffet restaurant works for you, then it's fine.

We are having a pig roast.... Can't anymore casual than that. There will be a fire to roast marshmellows, a horse shoe pit, a volleyball net. There will also be a DJ for dancing

    @Tabitha D - LOVE your idea!

Our original plan was to do a pig roast as well, but opted for just cooking parts of the pig! It cut our cost in half! We are having a close friend do our cooking which saves so much money. Brisket, pulled pork and turkey for the picky ones! Potato salad, pasta salad, fresh veggies! I like to keep it simple! I might even have them cook up some burgers that we can reheat later on when everyone decides theyre hungry again at 9pm!!

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a pizza wedding reception. If that's what you can afford and/or want, than go for it. As 2D said, the only thing you have to do is feed your guests.

My guests are pretty laid back so I don't really think they will mind. Most of them understand that I have huge student loans from grad school and that I don't want to be any more in debt just for a dinner.

Iam so happy to see that iam not the only one who is and was having a hard time with

planning the food for a recption, Iam wanting to either do cook out or chinese i believe chinese will be cheaper and defently easier and that way everyone will get full and none of my friends or family will have to cook. But the Pizza ideal sounds good also but i would go with little ceasars cause i got between 150 and 200 guest.
