Cardigan with wedding dress

Amy, on May 24, 2014 at 11:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

My FMIL is having a fit that I want to wear a cardigan with my wedding dress. She says it's tacky and stupid. I ALWAYS wear cardigans (mainly for the fact that I'm uncomfortable with my arms, always have been) and I looked up pictures of spring wedding dresses with cardigans and I think it's absolutely adorable! If I were to wear one, it would obviously be a nicer one than I normally wear and it would match the bridal party. I have a strapless a-line that's pretty much all lace so it won't be hiding anything spectacular. Has anyone physically seen a cardigan with a wedding dress? Are you doing one?

I'm not wearing one because I'm getting married in August, but I think a dressy cardigan or shrug would be lovely and practical on a cooler day.

We have the same problem. I hate my arms. I dont want to go look at wedding dresses because of my arms and i am considering a long sleeve dress.

I'm kicking it around but I'm getting married in July so probably not. I wear cardigans all the time too! I think that if you love the way it looks then go for it! It's not her wedding, it's yours.

I think it's cute; I'd go for a little light colored bolero type thing but it's going to be warm; how about a lace bolero or lace shrug?

I would go for something more fancy than an everyday cotton cartigan. I like the idea of bolero jacket or a lace shrug as pp suggested.

I think it completely changes the tone of the wedding. If you're wearing a normal cotton cardigan than your wedding and weddig dress will have a super casual feel...even if your dress is super fancy.

I would go with a jacket of some sort to cover your arms.

@Heather, my wedding is fairly casual lol we're having it at a campground in a log cabin hall and we're having BBQ to eat!

This is my wedding dress; nothing fancy

I LOVE it. I learned a while back that The gerom shouldnt be involved in fashion choices (at least in my relationship) in The early stages, i would Show him things i loved and he would tell me he didnt like them. They dont understand that this isnt just any old Outfit. Its like a shot to The heart when they dont like it. You know best, And check w your girlfriends! Youll look stunning The day of! Just leave him out of those choices, but involve him in other things.

Find an elegant bolero jacket that complements your dress and accentuates your arms. I think your FMIL is concern it will take away from the dress.

Go for it! See if you can make it fit in well with the theme -- I was at a December wedding with lots of poinsettas and the bride wore a red cardigan with her dress, it was cozy and cheery and perfect for the theme.

If it's white or lacy, I think it'll still look bridal enough. There was a bride on Four Weddings who had a matching elegant bolero jacket that matched her gown and looked good.

I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as it is actually cool/chilly. If it is warm, it won't really make sense, and will come off as a little contrived/pretentious.

I am going to have a fur wrap with me in case it is cold in October. I have a white angora bolero sweater that I wear to work with strapless dresses (spaghetti straps are not appropriate for when I meet clients). It was made by Kensie and I got it from Marshall's. Since it is angora, it is very formal and the sleeves go to my elbows. It has one button at the neck - it looks very vintage.

I'm getting married in the winter so I'll wear one with our pictures outside but take it off when I'm inside. Just own the arms you have. Flaunt what you've got! The only person worried about what your arms look like are you! Nobody else will be looking there. And besides, if you have chubby arms you have chubby arms- a cardigan isn't going to hide them- you will probably just look like you are insecure about your arms.

I love the cardigan idea and plan to do it! I'm going to wear a teal colored one, however I won't be wearing it during the ceremony, just if I get cold after.

I'm wearing a bolero. It's cardigan material but finer than most of the ones I have. It took me forever to find one in ivory, but finally found it on QVC of all places. I think a cardigan would work well with your dress, but maybe a cropped one or a shrug. My worry was that a cardigan would take away from the dress by covering it up, so that's why I went with a bolero.

I am seriously contemplating buying this to wear with my dress; it's simple, but it sort of serves the purpose of covering my arms (which I like). I found it on bestbridalprices.com for $70. Do you have a set budget in mind?

I too live in Ohio, and I understand the weather thing lol. I'm getting married in October, and I'm buying a cardigan to wear when we leave the church, take pictures outside etc. If it's you go for it!
