Carat, cut, clarity, or color? Which "C" mattered most to you? 💎

I didn't care about any of these because I didn't want a diamond. I only cared that it was a flattering ring and not too big. Of course, my husband picked it out all on his own.

I'm so impressed with everyone who does ring shopping totally on their own!! When the jeweler first asked us about color my husband was so confused "um clear? white? diamond-colored?".

There are so many confusing grading scales and it can be totally overwhelming! Having a completely flawless diamond wasn't most important to me, so we talked a lot with the jeweler about how many color and clarity grades you can go down before it's "visible to the human eye".

Cost should definitely be the official 5th "C" and certainly the biggest factor!

View Quoted Comment Funny, I told this to FH and begged for a moissanite or a family stone. He insisted on purchasing a princess cut diamond. He also insisted on good color and clarity. So I sent him to diamonds.pro and jamesallen and talked him down in color and clarity and up in carat and cut. Since he picked the shape, I picked the setting, and I have to say hid did a good job even on the fifth c - cost.
So long story short, the carat and cut was the most important to me!

I really wanted a Sapphire stone. FH shopped all on his own and he did a really good job. I was pleasantly surprised. He initially proposed with a fake ruby ring and I said YES!!!! He later gave me the real engagement ring. Guess he was testing me hahaha

I always wanted a larger stone because I have (what seems like) huge hands, but FH proposed to me with FMILs engagement and wedding ring set of diamonds and sapphires.

It's super important to me that things match (and dark blue won't match everything) so we used the diamonds from the sets to create my ring.

It's beautiful and perfect, and despite being smaller than I wished for in the beginning, I love it and catch myself staring at it.

Cost!
My ring was $80 and I love it more than anything!

Welllll Cut, clarity & color mattered to me lol I invested 5.5 yrs in the relationship & HE wanted to know what I wanted so I was adamant abt the fact that I wanted a round cut diamond, I didn’t want it cloudy & nothing remotely near yellow. Quality over size! ..He gave me a little of both ☺️

Cost. Never wanted an expensive ring. Thought that matters. Not the size or the price

Cut is king! The cut of the diamond is what determines how sparkly and visually appealing it is, so that’s what mattered most to me. Then a balance of carat and color. As long as the diamond was eye clean, I didn’t care what the clarity rating was. For all stones that were AGS ideal cut, I also could not see the difference between a D color and a J color (round brilliant stone), so I went with an I.

None I wanted a ring that means something. We got both our birthstones and a diamond.

My FH picked out mine and I love it he also engraved the inside with "past, present, future" with two dimonds on the inside 😍 (we've been together sence we were 17 and 20) I wouldn't upgrade mine even if he told me I could. It's definitely the thought that counts!

Here’s my 1 carat, colorless, oval, low-clarity diamond (pic 1)!

I wanted a colorless stone. No offense to ladies out there with rings like this, but I don’t like a diamond with hints of yellow (unless it’s a deep royal yellow).

Not sure which C this falls under, but I also didn’t want a ring that turns black when the flash is on for a photo (screenshot of what I’m talking about in the second picture). I think this has something to do with how light hits all the different parts of the diamond. So I was very happy when I took a picture of mine with flash and it was still white and colorless 😁

One thing I didn’t care about at all was clarity. Mine is definitely on the lower tier for clarity, but it’s not something I ever even notice in a diamond. And I would have been happy with a bunch of different shapes, too.

For me cut and cost. For FH it was carats, clarity, color, cut and cost. We picked the set together and I realized that I wanted something with sapphires, my favorite stone. He wasnr sure but found a band that he absolutely loved, it also got the approval of our kids!

View Quoted Comment You may be surprised at the cost of having one made. We went to a chain store (Jared's) to see how much they would charge, and it was TWICE was our local jeweler was charging. If you decide to go that route, definitely shop around! 😊

C-Color. I wanted a sapphire 😂

I agree. I would definitely still love my FH no matter what ring I got, but even he agreed that he wanted me to have something nice because I will be wearing it for the rest of my life.
