Cancelling an appointment with a vendor?

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on March 18, 2012 at 6:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Ok so we have an appointment with a videographer next weekend, and I had another look through their portfolio today. And I really don't like their work anymore. The camera is pretty shaky in some areas and they haven't edited it out. Anyway, we both really like the last videographer we met with so we don't want to meet with this one, as it will waste both of our times. Is it rude to cancel the appointment? Should we just go anyway? If I cancel what do I say?

    Dear ____,

Thank you for your time but we have decided to go with a different vendor.

    Best regards,

    Aussie Bride

Short & Sweet - no vendor wants to meet with a client who isn't going with them. :-)

Exactly what Marie said. It's worse wasting both their and your time if you know you're not going with them.

Definitely not rude. The vendor will appreciate you saving their valuable time if you are definitely not going to use their services.

You might ask them if they've changed equipment since the "shaky" video.

Better to cancel than to waste your time and theirs on an appointment that won't lead to a booking.

We made an appointment with a photographer that we met at a bridal show. I came home and read terrible reviews on WW, so I emailed and canceled.

I would definitely cancel the appointment in the manner Marie S. stated.

As a videographer, I definitely would prefer you to cancel and be honest that you have decided to go with someone else over keeping the appointment if you have no intention of booking me.

You may also want to give them more information as to why you didn't opt to go forward with them and nicely explain the concern about the shaky camera work etc.

No matter whom you decide on, make sure you view a full edit, not just a highlight video, before booking. That will let you know for sure if their style matches what you are looking for.

    Good Luck!

Just say that you decided to go in a different direction, but thank them for their time!

    Good luck!

I would absolutely cancel. No need to go into a long explanation. If you were my potential client, I would respect and appreciate that.

Ok excellent, thanks guys for the help!

Emailed and cancelled the appointment. They were really helpful so I thanked them for that. I was concerned cause there was something shaky in every highlight clip. The other people we met with showed us an entire length video and were very good. The company I canceled with were I think were only planning to show us a highlight clip that I can see online anyway (I was gonna ask for a full length clip).

Anyway, now I'm excited because we have picked our videographer!!
